Hi There

I've noticed a few of my movies didn't pick up any covers with the new version (0.6.4). Pretty sure they were there in 0.6.3.

Anyways, the ones that fail give entries like this in the movingpictures.log :
05-Jan-2009 15:53:42 Error [ DBMovieInfo]: Failed to retrieve artwork from http://posters.motechnet.com/covers/tt0464320_largeCover.jpg. Reached retry limit of 10 System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
at MediaPortal.Plugins.MovingPictures.Database.DBMovieInfo.getImageFromUrl(String url)
05-Jan-2009 15:53:42 Error [ DBMovieInfo]: Failed retrieving cover artwork for 'Wild Seven' [547] from http://posters.motechnet.com/covers/tt0464320_largeCover.jpg.

I can access the jpg URL just fine from within a browser.

Not sure if its related but I get an IO Exception error at 15:51:45 as well - see attached logfile.

Let me know if you need further logs/info.

cheers
Rob

Yeah you guys are right. The situation is actually a bit political. The cover art provider that is having problems is http://posters.motechnet.com. Recently (in the last few days) they made some modifications to their site that basically causes any HTTP request that does not originate from a web browser to be refused. Basically meaning they made very specific changes to their website that would cause applications like Moving Pictures to be blocked.

This is easily worked around and in the 0.7 baseline we have already fixed the issue, but the real question is should we fix the issue. The website also serves movies subtitles which is utilized but an outside API linked to from the website itself so our assumption was that they were willing to act as a web service to applications like Moving Pictures. Apparently this was an incorrect assumption though at least in regards to cover art.

So currently we are trying to contact the site operators of motechnet.com to see if we can come to some sort of agreement. Maybe if we promoted their site more prominently on the forums (and possible a link in the app?) they would let us keep using them as a data source. But unfortunately I think that if they do not want us scraping their site, Moving Pictures will stop supporting the motechnet.com script.

Please keep in mind that 0.7 will include full support for themoviedb.org, so if we do loose motechnet.com as a cover art provider, we will also in the near future be gaining themoviedb.org. Hopefully it will mostly balance out.

So for the time being if you guys could disable the motechnet.com cover art provider in the Moving Pictures config screen I (and I am sure the guys over at motechnet.com) would appreciate it. This will also speed up cover art retrieval and keep your log file clean.

Any comments on the situation are welcome.

no worries, cheers for the update.

themoviedb.org will be great as an alternative - with user editable content and what seems like a pretty active mod group it should kick ass.

keep up the awesome work, this plugin rocks!

cheers

Ok, don't know where to put this but, some of the cover dont show or are found : those cover are found using myvideos. Another thing, is it possible inside the mediaportal config moving pictures so i can change the cover or manually search the movie and choose the database?
Thanks
Another thing: I've got 2 movies in dvd folders (video_ts): One of the movies run well, but the other one only gives me a black picture... This issue only happens when running the movie using moving pictures....

I followed the instructions of disabling the motechnet covers script, but I'm still not getting any covers to download. I've even removed movies and readded them to no effect. Is there anything else I can do?

It will work if I add them individually (Add from URL), but that's sort of a headache.

Thanks for any tips, I love the plugin.

*edit* Wow, thanks for the quick response. If there's anything I can do to provide you assistance, feel free to ask.

If this is a simple question forgive me, but is there a guide to disabling the motechnet.com cover art provider in the config? I thought it would be as simple as removing motechnet.com as a data source, but I did not find that as one of the source options.

You have to click the dropdown to select the type of scripts you are looking at. By default it's set to Movie Details but you need to switch it to Covers. Sorry this is a little confusing. it will be a bit easier in 0.7.

0.6.5 will be released tonight though (another 8 hours or so?) which will remove it for you so, if you are feeling particularly lazy, you can just wait. :p
