Ok, let's skip the "I'm a n00b" intro since that'll be self-apparent, and jump straight to questions!
1) I like one of the skins and have installed it (PureVisionHD). It's "main" menu is obviously based on the artist's choices, but not what I need. Can I change what's on the menu without editing the XML files manually (which would simply get overwritten next time I update the skin). If not, doesn't this mean that users are limited in what they can run depending on the skin author's choices, not our own?
2) The PureVisionHD skin needs the Basic Menu thingie enabled. This seems counter-intuitive since it's clearly not a basic skin. Regardless, the PureVisionHD menu has a menu item in it, "Root Menu". This also seems strange; surely the main menu displayed upon startup in this skin is the "root" menu. But I can live with that. Entering the root menu, I can see all the other plugins I've installed that I'd really like to be using. However, if I have to jump out of the nice PureVisionHD skin to this "Root Menu" just to be able to do the basic things I want (My TV Shows and Moving Picture), it defeats the point of having the nice skin installed. And totally confuses the rest of the family.
3) Can you rename menu items, or is every user stuck with english language naming?
I can post some of these questions on the PureVision thread, but I think there's some underlying lack of understanding on my part on this whole concept of skins, menus, and plugins.
Bottom line: I'd like to change the menu that comes with PureVision so that it
a) doesn't have a "Videos" item that goes to a (terribly horrid basic) file browser
b) add My TV Shows to the menu
c) add Moving Pictures to the menu and rename it to "Movies"
and not do any of these things by hacking.
Or am I off the planet?
Many thanks for the energy expenditure!
