Hi all,

Im new to the htpc hype (building on this moment a htpc) and i have a few questions. Maybe they are allready on the forum but i searched for a while through the forum and didnt find the answer.
I used until now my gamepc to stream video but that pc is way to loud, eats to much power and all that software/movies/music makes him very slow. And the quality of vlc is far from what i have when i use my dvd player.
So here we goes:

1: Is it possible to stream content from a central server i have connected directly to my htpc? Or maybe a networkdrive?
2: Is it possible to use upscale software. Or maybe that mediaportal use ffdshow filter to play movies?
(My beamer dont likes the low resolution:( )
3: whats the best way to connect the htpc on my beamer? On the dvi connector or with a Dvi->hdmi connector.klik I dont think it will make much difference but asking isnt that bad, isnt?
4: Wich tv kaart is the best to watch satelite tv (astrasat...) to have all the nice advantages that a ready to buy box have.

Sorry, my english isnt that good, but i try my best. So dont blame me when you can understand what im trying to say;)!

Hey there leeuwtje, and welcome to the wonderful world of MediaPortal.

    1) yes. Depending on how your system is set up, you should be able to go into the MPconfig utitlity on your machine running MP and point it to your network drives. Many people here use networks of various sorts.

    2) MediaPortal can use ffdshow or any other codec/post-processing you like. If your hardware can handle it, you can achieve 1080p or any other HD resolution quite simply. Check the wiki for codecs if you are having trouble making these work.

    3) I don't know much about the various connections, but personally I use dvi-hdmi. My display does not support dvi input so I have not experimeted beyond that.

    4) I don't use satelite, but if you go through the hardware selection forum, I'm sure you'll find people chatting about this.

Hope this helps. If you have specific network issues, let us know and I'm sure somebody can help you out.
