In http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/UserGuides/SVN-stable-builds it mentions that if we install 0.2 and have a previous version installed, we need to rename MediaPortal (in Team Mediaportal folder) to MediaPortalBackup.

Then install with "repair", install the patch and then use the usual "start.bat" as with SVN.

Does this mean that this "MediaPortalBackup" folder IS USED in the procedure to get your old settings/plugins etc.?

Or I got it wrong?

I intend to use this method with my new Windows setup too (!). I kept the old folder. Should I do it?

I am going to first say, I don't really know 100% but this is what I think. Because you didn't go into add and remove programs and remove mediaportal, the PC still things you have MP installed. That’s why you use the repair option. All that is going to do is install the application again (clean Install) in the correct directory. In my eyes, nothing will be grabbed or taken from the mediaportalbackup directory. I would then install the patch and run the startup.bat.

I have heard because of the new TV engine coming up, the new SVN files are going to have some changes to them regarding the TV engine (no it is not included in there yet) So using the latest SVN files if you watch or record shows, might not be the best idea.... Unless your a tester and you like the wife yelling at you (I LOVE IT) I don't recommend it.

what I am asking is this

I have a new WINDOWS installation, but I still have the old partition along with MP (bear in mind it was a 0.2 final)...

so I ask... if I do the following:

    1) setup 0.2
    2) drop my old MP folder on top (for the plugins and the menu structure etc.)
    3) enter configuration for the inevitable small changes in codecs and paths
    4) apply the new 0.2 patch

will I be ok? (like I never changed MP and OS install)

    this is my question

I think you will be OK with that. I remember when I first started using MP, I would install the SVN files on top of each other. This is NOT how you are supposed to do it, but it worked. Your not going to hurt anything by doing that, but if you start getting crashes and strange behavior, then maybe a clean install might be in order.

Give it a try, it might work really good for you.
