I was most of the way through installing Media Portal. I had live TV playing with sound via the HDMI cable. I pressed a button on the remote which I didn't realise was configured to start the Compro TV software. The whole thing froze up. I had to press reset on the computer. Now the live TV works, but I have no sound.

I'm only new to HTPC's and to Vista as well. I'm hoping might be able to have an educated guess at what I might have corrupted.

I've tried playing with the sound settings in Windows, but I must be missing something. I realise that I'm clutching at straws a bit. I'm hoping it's a "common" mistake that I just don't know about.

:D

Well, just to close this thread, it ended up being a hardware failure. I took the video card back. It was repaired and now works fine.
