    Hi all,

I did an upgrade from a RC1 version to RC2, and now my TV-channels are all gone (looking in TV-Server Configuration -> TV-Channels). This is for an analog tuner.

I restored them from the XML export I made before, but is this by design? Even after putting back all the files from the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\database folder, the channels were not back.

I am asking because if this is by design, this should be documented in the wiki (UpdateingMediaPortal - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation) to prevent other people from getting in problems.

Anybody who can tell me a bit more?

    Thanks, Peter

I can tell you that if you try to import a previously exported channel list then the import procedure might give you lots of non working channels.

    The export/re-import mechanism is buggy.

Only way to be sure you get a working channel list is to rescan cards.

Thanks, I haven't gotten around to use the TV yet, will check if the imported channels work.

But the real question was about the channel cleaning at upgrade; is this by design or a bug?

I can confirm this and I think this is a thing that must be solved before the release of 1.0 version. For instance what I've noticed is that the import of channels that have the same name causes the channels to be messed up between groups.

The installer creates a new database according to Release Candidate number ie MpTvDbRC2, the old MpTvDbRC1 db should still be there though (still got original TVLibrary).

The clean install has been required because of possible alterations to tables accessed within db, which could give problems leading to false bug reports.

If there are no database changes, then you should be allowed to keep previous setting, or migrate the database over, only the devs can decide on this, and i think they err on the side of caution.

The channel import is not good, especially for people with multiple cards, so anything that makes "upgrading" to a new version straight forward, has to be appreciated, so maybe this needs to be looked at more closely.

I really can appreciate the need for a new database being created, as this does help find newly introduced bugs on the tuning\sorting side.

Sorry if above sounds a bit contradictory, but there are definately 2 types of users, one who just want MP to work, and those who are constructive in its development and do not mind the clean install approach.

What you put into wiki from above is upto you :)

    :D

I think there are 3 types of users.

    1. just want MP to work
    2. those who are constructive in its development and do not mind the clean install approach.
    3. those who are constructive in its development (by posting bug reports etc) and wouldn't mind the clean install approach if they could actually set-up the 1000s of channels they get on a scan of 4 digital tuners in much less time than the frequency of SVN releases.

Maybe there are more types. :)
