Hi,

Like always, great job on the concurrent releases of Media Portal!

To the issue, ever since the SP3 Windows update, all I get via my SPDIF output through mediaportal is nothing but static. I run Meedios Ultimate side by side on the same box for testing, and it runs perfectly fine, also Media Center works great as well with no sound issues via SPDIF at all, only happens with Media Portal. I've tried testing the different direct sound settings to see if it just needed to be set to a different option for direct sound, but it doesn't matter what I do I just end up with straight static regardless of movies, music, or tv.

Any ideas on how this would be? From my testings its solely a Media Portal issue, but I can't figure out for the life of me what is so different from SP2 to SP3 that would affect only Media Portal in this way.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Same happens to my setup, I've tried changing from MPA Decoder SPDIF to FFDShow LPCM in 16bit and 24bit but I get strange sound or hiss!
However when running from the Desktop in Windows Media Player or VLC everything runs ok!
Please devs shed some light...

Thanks in advance and keep up the Good work

Hello hotsync,

I have a solution that i haven't tried yet, it goes like this:

In ffdshow audio decoder configuration go to "Codecs" from the left tree and on the right pane Change the decoder to "SPDIF" for the AC3 and DTS formats respectively.
This should tell ffdshow to pass the sound unprocessed to an external decoder (wheather it is an external receiver or something else).
Now you should change the audio decoder from Mediaportal's configuration to FFDSHow and try it.
I will try it later, if there is no luck then a serious bug has surfaced for 1.0 RC3....

Not for me, no dice, believe it or not it actually made if worse, before I could make out faintly a bit of the actual sound, no its nothing but blaring static once I did the AC3 check box.

Hey Blackstar,

Unfortunately that hasn't worked either. Ran diagnostics on sound device, everything checks, even did ASUS sound check through spdif and all works fine... I'm at a loss really.

Officially give up, just finished a completely new installation of media portal, even cleared out all file/folder and registry entries for mediaportal, new DB installed, every new other then the OS, and still the same issue. I'm just going to stick with Meedios I guess since it worked first try, and I've been screwing with this for 2 weeks off and on with zero results after 3 fresh installs.
