I confirm that this was more random before Christmas. If you run windowed and move the window while playing video you should see playback instantly fix itself. I also have verified that alt-tab will fix the playback issue as long as mediaportal is not set to always stay on top, and only if you hold alt-tab long enough for the aero rendering of the windows to display the video mediaportal is playing. VMR9 does not show this behavior at all. I just did quite a bit of testing and reproducing, hopefully this information helps. Settings: default refresh rate 60hz 1. Start media portal, play 24p video. Stutter problem exists. 2. Hit alt-tab and continue holding alt so that the aero window list appears and ends up hiding the mediaportal window. Once this pops up, you can go right back to mediaportal and playback is smooth as silk. You can also just hit windows-tab since it will redraw the MP window. -- any 24p video played from this point will be smooth. Even after mediaportal resets to the default 60hz rate. Even if you quit mediaportal and run it again, 24p playback will be smooth. 3. Play 50p video. Stutter problem present again. -- if you stop and play 24p video now, it will still be smooth 4. While playing 50p video, perform alt-tab procedure. Video will be smooth, and same behavior as previous will return. You will be able to quit mediaportal, run it again, and play 50p videos without any issue. -- if you play 24p video now, it will stutter again, until you alt-tab. If you're running in windowed mode, you can replace alt-tab with moving the window, as the behavior is the same. Windows-tab always seems to work as well, even if you have mediaportal always on top. Hope this helps. This is also with latest SVN build. Would it be possible to redraw/refresh the window after playback starts to try to cause this same effect? This auto-merged my next post, which starts here: SOLUTION: disable aero. This completely removes the stutter issue for me if aero isn't running. This isn't really a good solution, as you lose aero, but if you have a dedicated HTPC, it really doesn't matter.
