Stuttering, how to debug?? (1 Viewer)

I have been using Mediaportal for some time now, and now I have a real setup based on a Antec Lifestyle Fusion box with AMD Athlon 64 processer and a WinTV-PVR_USB2 tuner.

Most of the time it runs fine, but my problem is that sometimes my TV starts to stutter, and even loose the signal. If I go to the home screen and back to Live TV, it comes back but usually in poor quality. I would like to debug this and I am calling out to all you experts as how to do this.

There are a number of things to check for failures:

MPEG stream from the Tuner (Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 box)
USB connecttion
Harddrive
Decoding of the TV stream.

How do I go about this? Are there any debug modes in MP that I can use?
My initial fear is the USB connection, but I have tried to use a PCI USB2 IO card without any luck.

Thanks for a great program!

when i had stutterting it was linked to the HDD. (i also had a USB tuner).

i changed from IDE to SATA and the stuttering stopped.

There are many possible causes for stuttering: codecs, high processor use, low signal... And there are many open threads about this issue. I suggest you to search some threads, as they have some clues that have worked for some (but not all). I hope there was a way to clearly see what's wrong, but this seems a complex issue.

    A friendly tip:

How to start a support thread:

    1. Choose a meaningful title for your thread.
    2. At the moment you start a new thread in the support forums, the hardwarespecification template will be added automatically. If the template is empty, then you have not filled out your specifications in the usercp yet.
note: You MUST attach a complete hardwarespecification to your support thread!
    3. Add a detailed, step by step description of your problem.
    4. If your problem occurs inside MediaPortal or the configuration program, then ATTACH all *.log files located in MediaPortal\logs to your post.
    5. Do NOT copy/paste your logfiles (or large parts of them) in your post.

    Thanks for friendly tip.
I am however pretty sure this has nothing to do with Mediaportal, which is why I am asking for advice on how to debug e.g. the USB and HDD connection.

I had hoped to avoid these problems by selecting a tuner with hardware encoder, but I guess I have a bottle neck in my system. My CPU is at 14% so it is not a load problem.

    Thanks for your help!

Well, the most common reason for stuttering is the use of other settings than default directsound as audio renderer (strangely, this is not something that is listed in the template).
