I eventually achived this by pressing record then closing MP and opening up the ever increasing .ts recording up in VLC Media player, make it full screen and then turn on the subtitles in VLC. This worked well but is a right pain in the a**e. Sureley if VLC Media player can do this then some clever sole can script this into MediaPortal.
