Hi all

I have a problem where I really dont know where to start!

When I first setup MP I thought I had no need for subtitles, so really didnt pay any attention to any mention of them in any documentation or forum posts (and hense have dont no setup; if there is any), however last weekend we watched an old Star Wars episode and noticed that we didnt get the "forced" subtitles; ie: the movie is in english, but when someone speaks in another language, the subtitles come up automaticaly, without any user intervention.

This got me thinking that subtitles are a pretty basic requirement, but when I stated experimenting, I cant get any subtitles at all to work within MP.

As I dont really know anything about subtitles, or how they work, i have no idea where to start! I cant find any basic setup info for MP; or should subs "just work"?

I have tried playing a video file within TMT5 and all works as expected. Forced subs show automaticaly, and I can turn full subs on and off

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated, I can/will provide any other info that helps, I just didnt know where to start!

Codec setup is currently LAV Splitter, Arcsoft Video Decoder, LAV Audio Decoder.

Thanks!

Barry

    Hi Barry

Taking a look at the appropriate wiki section or searching the forums is always the best place to start. :)

Getting forced subtitles to display correctly requires reasonably careful setup. Please read the wiki information for the subtitles tab in the video section of MediaPortal configuration -->here<--. If you still have questions after that then I'm sure Sebastiii and others will be able to answer your questions.

Thanks for the quick reply mm!

I should have perhaps phrased my intro that I've spent hours trawling the wiki and forum posts here and anywhere else and have got nowhere!

To me the wiki doesnt indicate any settings that should necessarily be changed from default, for basic embedded subtitles...although Im most happy to be corrected!

    Thanks!

    Barry

    Hi again Barry

Well, if you read the section I pointed you to, you'd see this [in the 1.2.0b section... *meaning you need 1.2.0b installed for this to work*]:

Forced subtitles are displayed when Autoload subtitles is turned off, but they are only supported with MPC-HC engine and MPC (Matroska) Splitter.

    So requirements list is:
    1. MP 1.2.0b.
    2. MPC Splitter.

    Settings to use:
    1. Autoload off.
    2. MPC-HC subtitle engine.

Is that what you have? Your system specs say you're using 1.1.2, so that would be a problem straight off the bat...

Thanks again mm; I've not had internet access for the past week, so just back checking the forums now!

If Im reading your post correctly, you're saying that forced subtitles have NEVER worked on mediaportal? Prior to the new 1.2 beta release?

    wow.......that would explain it!

    Hi Barry

Don't quote me, but I'd say a tentative yes. Getting things like subtitles and closed captions working correctly is trickier than you might think. Certainly it only works in certain configurations, so you do need to follow the wiki's guidance quite closely in that regard.

Where can I download or get MPC Splitter?
