I couldn't get any subtitles to appear at all, & thought it was cos I didnt have VSFilter.dll so went ahead & downloaded Directvobsub, & added the auto-loading to post-processing & I now have subtitles.

However, every now & then (2 out of 3 times) when I go to play something with subtitles it crashes. The last entry in the log is always:

2009-02-27 22:41:56.328125 [Info.][MPMain]: VideoPlayerVMR9: add normal vob sub filter
2009-02-27 22:41:56.328125 [Info.][MPMain]: VideoPlayerVMR9: Setting DirectVobsub parameters

I've uninstalled the directvobsub & no crashing, but no subs either.

What am I doing wrong? Is it conflicting with some of the SAF codecs I'm using?

The subtitles are in 'idx' & 'sub' format in some files & built into the mkv in others, both crash more times than not.

Anyone got any ideas?

I've put in hours now, trying various different things, all to no avail!

what are you trying to get subtitles with, video file or TV.

I know for video files, you need to put the srt\sub file inside a mkv container using mkvtoolnix, this only takes seconds to do.

Don't enable the autoload vsfilter, see if that works

Doh just read the last bit of your first post.

You'll be pleased to know I'm now praying you boys can do something to stop the mancs getting the PL this season seeing as we're throwing it away!

It's video files only, I dont use the tv side of things. I've scanned the forums for solutions & as such used mkvtoolnix to merge the subs in one mkv file & watched that successfully, then halfway through it crashed. The only way I can stop it crashing randomly or crashing when I start to play a file is to completely uninstall vsfilter.

Try ffdshow last release - it's free, universal, good picture quality and full of features regarding the subtitles. The only drawback - it doesn't support DXVA. With your CPU and clock it shouldn't be a problem though.

I did a system restore, uninstalled all codecs again & then re-installed the SAF pack & Hailli Splitter, works perfectly now.
