Suggestions for Windows 7 (1 Viewer)

I have tried to change my OP from XP to 7 64 bit.
The system now it's faster but i have some problems:
It's better increase system memory from 2 GB to 4 GB ? Someone tells it's important, someone tells no matters ...
Sometimes (not often, reilly) the system crash; i think the problem is IMonManager; i have read that Soundgraph IMonManager have problems with Windows 7: someone knows solutions ?
Before, with XP, i had in MP configuration MPC-MPA decoder settings, so can i send Dolby and DTS audio only to S/PDIF (connect optical with a Denom amplifier), and all other audio to TV speakers and also to S/PDIF; now i use Microsoft decoder (i don't remember the correct name) and i don't have MPC-MPA decoder settings; i tried different solution but the only way i found is select manually every time where send the audio: exist another way ?

1. with 2 GB of RAM I should have gone for Win7 32bit (I have 4 GB and use 32bit), not 64bit, less problems are expected (like 32 bit codecs, TV-card drivers etc)

2. 2 GB should be enough with dedicated GFX

3. iMon manager -> just stop it and prevent autostart, what do you need it for? I guess for the iPad Remote. That is a crap, get rid of it (I threw it away and use MCE Remote). Or try 32bit Windows with older iMon, it is stable AFAIK

4. audio decoder with S/PDIF output: you could try AC3Filter or the newer ffdshow audio filter. Try and error....

I have AC3 filter and i try it as soon as possible.

AC3 filter don't work.
May be with win7 i cannot enable speakers and spdif togheter, but before, with XP, it works and i don't know why.
When i have time, i wanna try to return to XP ...

if you stop it the drivers are still there. I use my display that way (a simple Soundgraph LCD though). But if you do not run iMon the IR Receiver will not work. I use an MCE receiver.

This is correct, Windows XP allowed anaogue sound and digital sound to work together. Vista onwards does not (I think Microsoft rebuilt the sound stack in Windows Vista, the MIDI mapper also disappeared).

I have used Windows 7 x64 in my HTPC since it came out in the UK, originally with 2Gb, now with 6Gb (although 1Gb seems to be reserved for hardware for some reason despite having a 1Gb ATI Radeon HD 5450). I can get the Imon software to driver the display (for time etc) I can't currently get it to work with MediaPortal. This has always seemed a bit hit and miss for me, even under XP, sometimes if I reinstall everything it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have always used an MCE remote rather than the Imon one. Since Vista the MCE remote drivers have been built into Windows (they were in XP MCE 2005 I believe).

All my hardware has been bought since 2007 and I have had no issue with drivers (most of these were sorted out as x64 versions a while after Vista came out). Some software, such as FFDShow does need to have the 32 bit version installed rather than 64 bit but this is not an issue. Obviously if you are running 32 bit Windows there is no point having more than 3Gb of RAM as Windows x86 cannot use it.

I have increase RAM to 6 GB: now the system is very good !!
Now the problem is switching from analog to digital audio, inside MP: i want try to write an plugin to do this: i have no time, but i want to try.
