but was wondering more about Media Portal and not sure who better to turn to than this forum. I've used sageTV for about 3 years and have always wanted to switch to media portal cause it looks so much better, but i'm worried about losing some features. And I am not even sure I will lose any.

Right now I use my PC as a client/server combo and only output to 1 TV and store everything on my client/server PC.

I'm worried my recording of tv will disappear, or I won't be able to setup favorite recordings, or it will record in SD rather than HD or that my 2250 will not work. Or I won't get all the channels that I would through sage. I can't imagine anything else i'm worried about, just the TV aspect of it. Any thoughts on it?

Again sorry to bother you and thanks for any help.

I wish sage could look as nice as Mediaportal....they are so far behind in that department it's crazy

Why not install MP and give it a try.

MP and TV Server will do all the things you've listed as concerns if it is setup correctly.

I think that is my plan right now, TV and everything but my PC case arrives monday, case on Tuesday. I just want the install to go as smooth as possible. I know it's a bit more combursome than setting up SageTV, but I survived a myth TV install, so I don't think it's a problem.

I will need TV-Server? Or is this only if I am sharing out to multiple PC's? Or does it have to do with recording from an HD source?

:D

You need TV Server. The old internal TV Engine, I'm sure I read somewhere is not supported any more or won't be from the next release.

TV Server lets you record HD source material. TV server and Mediaportal sit quite happily on the same box.

You seem to be focusing on TV recording. I suggest you have a look at the FortheRecord plugin. It provides an extra level of control and functionality.

thanks so much! i will review that, also since i have to use TV-Server does that mean I have no way to get my EPG data other than schedules direct? As long as there is a way to set it up to be automated I will fight through it, I just don't want to have to download and edit a couple files every couple days? I read in the Manual that the WEBEPG does not work with TV-Server, so I'm curious I guess what method I'll need to use??

thanks again for your help!

have a look at 4therecord (For The Record) for the scheduling.
This add-on for MP is the best if it comes to scheduling from epg data.
