    Hi Folks -

after a long time using MePo - time for something new.

Two weeks ago - someone crashed in my loyal (parked) opel Zafira -
so it was time to look for a new vehicle ...
decision was fast done - couse i allways wanted to have a Volkswagen T4 Van.

Needed only a few days to find one that fits in my thoughts and to my moneybag :D

And now it is time - to fit in MePo...couse my little daughter loves films and series ...
15" screen for the backseats - Controll display (Touchscreen?) for the front seats ...
little PC for MePo ... all kind of things ...

    Actuall: T4 arrived - build 1995/11 - 2.4 liter diesel - 78hp
    max load 2810 kg - 227 000 km (thats nearly brand-new) :p
less rust (only found 4 small parts) - ok - the paint (red) is old and bleached out...

    To do:
long list (which i will edit all the time)
first have to repair many little things like central locking, glow-plugs,
sliddedoor has to be justify again...some lights in the car dashboard needs to be replaced...
broken speakers - door contact switches - Kitchen-Rebuild (ugly old thing) ...and and and ... most of it will be done this weekend -
so the main part (mepo) can start soon.

    to DO and DONE:

    - glow-plugsd (not fixed)
    - justify slidedoorr (fixed)
    - central looking @ slidedoor (fixed)
    - car dashboard lights (fixed)
    - door contact switches (fixed)
    - broken speakers (fixed)
    - MePo-PC (in progress)

So at the moment i do an inventory - and build 2 BoM´s

    - BoM (in stock)
    - BoM (in the store - for shopping)

    Pictures will come soon :)

... so let the fun begin ...

    cheers

SO - as i promissed - some pictures of the client ...

First picture - you can also see the "ugly-old" kitchen ...
have to rebuilt this real quick - couse it also prohibit
the inside way into the back of the van....

Today i only renew the speakers ... the olds are hmm "out-of-order" ...

and i think about the 15" tft - it is one with an external 12 Volt PSU -
so i don't have trouble with an extra DC-DC konverter...
downside - it is a 4:3 display ... but it is in stock so i don't have to buy a new one.
enclosure has to be rebuild - pedestal has to be removed ...

Well - headunit works with me netbook ...
So i think it will also work
With the small single aton 230 with ion1.

Only thing i have to decide - for the passengers
The old 15" 4:3 display which would run with 12 volt (25watt)
but it is present in my stock ....

Or an hp u160 usb display which would need much less power (5watt)
But would cost about 130 euros..

Salü .... 2 weeks to go till vacation.

MP ist NOT installed in the T4 - machine it self is running -
but hardware is not assambled till now.

i do kind of brainstroming again -
    Raspberry PI ...
    i just thought - i only need:
    - Music
    - Videos
    - Series
    - NO TV (not yet)

    Why?
couse the machine i have for MePo is a N230 Atom + ION1 needs about 25-35 Watts
if i use a "normal" monitor - it will also eat 20-25 Watts -
    DisplayLink USB Monitor 5 - 8 Watt - HP-U160 ...
for using it while driving - no problem - but if we stay anywhere without any 230Volt external power
our batterie will die quick and hot ... and i have no solar ...

    alternative:
Raspberry Pi 3,5 - 5 Watt with Raspmc / XBMC (NOT as a client)
But i am not sure - if it will work with all formats i have.
    *.mkv - Yes
    *.ts - Yes
    *.avi - Yes
    *.mp4 - not sure
    *.flv - not sure

can anybody confirm the last two file formats?

cose if those would also be working with the RasPi - i would have a new favorite for my T4.

i don't think that a DisplayLink powerd USB Display can run with the RasPi ?
any ideas / links for an 14" - 15,6" display which would run good with the RasPi and less power consumption?

    help would be cool

    best regards

    polarie

    EDIT:

best from both worlds would be RasPi with a HP-U160 DispalyLink 15.6"
    alltogether about 12-14 Watts -
but will the RasPi bring enought GPU-power for an USB-DisplayLink -
or will it be a driver problem under RasPi with DisplayLink?

xbmc on pi will play mp4.

not sure about flv, but at a guess given that it is a common format, i would think it would be ok.

ps: xbmc on pi runs very slowly, you'd be better off with a roku3 or amazon tv or apple tv or wdtv, or something else.

did a test with his RasPi - and it does my flv files ... :)

so i think i will use one of those ... (just ordert @ amazon)
if it is slow i don't care ... it is multi-media on long journeys ...
always more than 3 hours ... so enought time ;)
