I use the same Case, it's really a beauty
Still need to put the Touchscreen to a usefull purpose, didn't have time for it.
Please keep us informed how the timeshift on the Compactflash work out. Seems a nice solution.
The TV and the touch screen are running in Clone Mode (only drawback: for BD playback the second screen needs to be disabled... thanks to HDCP). I'am using the touch screen to control MP3 playback and radio app without having to turn on the TV: 9W (7' touch screen) vs 160W (32' tv screen).
have messed around a bit with cf2ide and its not suitable for timeshifting at all, the cards die within weeks even quality ones don't take constant writing to, handy as a boot medium if you like(google EWF) but if you need silent ts try a NAS solution
on a flash memory module it's not possible to modify a bit seperatly, you can only access a 'cell'. Normal modules garantie 100.000 write/erease cycles per cell. Each read/erase access on a SD or CF card is handled by a flash module internal controller. Some algorythms try to spread these accesses on the complete module. Estimations say that 100.000 write/erase cycles are equivalant to a 1.000.000 hours MTBF (mean time between failure). A normal harddisk has got a MTFB of 100.000 hours in 'normal use' and these can be mapped to a 10 years life cycle.
On the CF card is a second level of control: The file system. It should handle a dead cell in the same way as a bad block on a hard disk. A lost cell will not kill the hole card.
Time shifting is not rated as a normal use, you are right. But let's say the CF card survies 2 years, is that realy so bad? I'll give this CF2IDE a chance... let's see what will happen.
I've also have that OriganAE S16T case, but I'm still looking for the correct MP plugin to control my music and video through the touch screen.
Any advice on that?
Recommendation for all users of the Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5:
I would rather suggest to use the Realtek HD Audio Driver Version 2.01!
I deinstalled the Dynamic Energy Saver application and ASUS Splendid (incl. Device Manager component).
With any former driver/app combination the system sporadically freezes (video frozen, audio 0.1 sec loop, hard power off/on was needed to restart) up to 4-5 times a week while using MP.
A little hardware modification has been done: I exchanged the N8600GT with a brand new N9500GT.
The top reason doing this was to reduce the overall system temperature: With 30 °C indoor temp the system itself doesn't go higher than 40°C (the gfx card itself never went above 50°C, the old one reached nearly 70 °C). This modification reduced the fan speeds from 1000/900 to 850/600 (with 30 °C indoor temp after 24h hours TV playback). Now the fans can't be heared in the night...
The second point was dual Blu-Ray stream decoding. This feature is used during PIP playback on newer BDs.
