When I install a new mediaportal version and I preserve the database. then all my video's are there, only the thumbs are not displayed. I f I go to the editor, the path of the thumb is there. When I push "save"  the thumb appears. I already know this behaviour since I use MP (> 4 years) but now my collection is growing it becomes annoying.
