If you're going to multitask a lot be sure to get a dual core cpu. 2x2ghz dual core is not equal to 4ghz. Many applications and games are not written for dual core cpus and use only one core. One advantage is that you can use the other core for other things at the same time and thus get better system performance.

I use a core 2 duo mobile 1,66ghz cpu, 2gb ram and 800gb disk, internal graphic card and I can play 1080p without a problem. You only need 1gb ram...

You don't need to think about 64 bit... The current cpus can run 64bit instructions but there are very few applications written for 64bit, it's primarilly companies that has large SQL databases that can benefit from 64bit instructions.

have you posted your system specs? A celeron 2.4 should be ok if you have a reasonable gfx card.
Maybe your existing system will work ok if you find the cause of the stuttering.

Unless you are mostly looking for justifaction for an upgrade (I know I sometimes do)...

One thing I would highly suggest is to make sure to get a Vid card with HDCP.
Most Nvidia 7950 cards have it as well as certain lower end cards.
If you end up adding HD-DVD or Blue-ray down the road you will want this feature and wish you got a card that supports it.
Your TV needs to support it to though, but if you are getting a new TV anytime soon most these days do.

I was an AMD fanboy for along time, but the new Intel Conroes are a fantastic choice. You can get a 6300 or 6400 and overclock it without difficulty and low heat output by todays standards.
