In zoomplayer there exists a very nice feature to assign a time skip funtion to the mouse scroll wheel. One can assign 5 sec skip or a larger value (don't remember the exact value now).
So to easily fast forward or backward one simply scrolls the wheel to skip to a specific point in the video where playback always resumes as usual. It is a much easier approach than to click on the 2x or 4x forward play, and then at the correct place resume standard play. It is so easy to overshoot with that approach.
I would like to request this feature to be implemented i MP. I.e to assign a time skip function the the mouse wheel. Each click in the wheel skips a (preferably configurable, default 5 secs) amount of seconds in the direction you are scrolling.
This would apply to TV (timeshift or recorded), video and DVD.
