Folks,

First a big thank you for a marvellous resource and great piece of software - if only I'd known about it BEFORE ordering all my devices I'd have selected a different TV tuner card, but...

After installing 0.2.2.0 and having no luck with the Black Gold tuner I've now down a complete fresh install of Windows and MP 0.2.3.0 RC01. The software now recognises the card (after a couple of attempts) and allows recordings to be made from it - but I just can't get the Timeshifting function to work. I've tried using the auto switch on option from settings, and also manually switching on when in "My TV" and through both methods get an error message saying "Failed to start timeshifting. Unable to start timeshifting". When the OK button is selected the TV output is lost completely and a second error message "Failed to start TV. Unable to connect MPG2 pin" is returned. The only way to regain TV output is to stop MP and re-start it. I know the card works okay under MCE (timeshift and record) so its not hardware at fault. Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

Keep up the good work, and thanks in advance for any help,

Al

PD, many thanks for these suggestions. I've tried disabling any services that are in the "Windows Media Center" group of names and still get the same problem. Do you really think that changing the drivers will help given that I know the card, with its current drivers, functions properly under MCE?

Drivers are updated for many reasons, so always worth using latest.

You may find you will have to rerun mce tv setup (If you use it), and the worst scenario is rollback the driver to your old one.

you may also have better luck with TVE3, if the BDA drivers are good.

Thanks for the continuing suggestions PD. I'll be away from home for a week or so from tonight so I'll give the updated drivers a try when I get back. As for TVE3, I have to say that the set-up looks more than a little involved so I was trying to avoid it initially, but I'll give it a go if that's what it takes. Thanks again,

    Al

Well, I've now tried the updated drivers you pointed me to PD (thanks) but they made no difference at all I'm afraid. I then spotted that RC2 had been released so thought I'd give that a try...

With RC2 I got the same error messages when I tried to use the timeshifting function, but it will now not "release" the card and keeps repeating the MPG2 pin error message and refuses to show even live TV - this despite a full system restart. Will I have to install TVE3 do you think or are there any other avenues to try first?

    Cheers,

    Al

Any thoughts anyone? I'm disappointed that RC2 seems to be a step back for me and I've had to return to RC1. I'd really like to see if this can be made to work without going through the entire TVE3 installation when it looks like there's a good chance it won't resolve the problem. Please don't tell me I have to return to MCE? :(

This appears to all be down to Vistas security. I had a similar problem, I disabled UAC and all worked fine. To isable it, run msconfig from the run command and select the disable UAC option. You will need to reboot. See if that solves the problem. At least you will then know if it is the security problem.

ps. You get an annoying security alert when you have it disabled...

You sir are a star - thank you. Now that I know I can get it working at a basic level I'm off to play properly, and to try out TVE3!
