huge newb here. i pretty much have everything set up they i like except for a couple things. the one that sticks out the most is (if you have dual tuners) it timeshifts everything. what i want it to do is like a regular dvr. how if you change a channel then the timeshift is gone and moves on to the next channel. so when i want to rewind, it wont rewind to the previous channel i was on. makes sense? can this be done????

thanks!

Hi fshgring. The benefits of time shifting is that you can pause live Tv, do instant replay, chasing playback, and skip ads in recordings. If you look at Windows MCE, it's not a really good DVR because you can't do all these things. With two Tv tuners, you can record one channel and watch another live program, or record two channels at the same time and watch a previous recorded one.

    Hi JoePlumber

This has been discussed many times before (just search the forums), but the bad news for you is that the way it presently works will not change....:sorry:

ok, thats fine. so just to make clear, when ever you start live tv and flip through channels it will record the flipping through the channels as well? it will not stop and start timeshift evertime you change your channel (which is what i want) - ok

the reason why i asked this question is because of this problem that i am having...
when i start watching live tv for a good 10 minutes or so....i compare it to a regular tv that i am watching as well. and the lag on mp live tv keeps getting longer and longer....by the end of 10 minutes i swear there is a good 3 to 4 second delay. the longer i watch the same channel the longer the delay is.....i dont understand...it is like the the throughput isnt fast enough....
    that is problem number one...

    problem number two...
having this happening, breaks mp...because when i watch live tv for 10 minutes then switch to a different channel and then switch back to the same channel i have been watch for 10 minutes...(not lagging at this point) starts to play fine and then freezes picture freezes on me but audio still plays and i have to physically restart computer...
i have a feeling it has everything to do with this delay that happens (the longer you watch a channel the longer the delay is)

    any ideas...thanks!

I think it was fshgrind that posted the thread ;)

True, DVRs are slow when you're flipping channels because of the timeshift buffer. That's why I never used them to watch regular Tv. I only use a DVR when I need to record a live program and be able to skip all those annoying ads. IMHO, WinDvr is the best Tv program because it's really fast at locking in the channels but it doesn't support ATSC. :(

Windows MediaCenter, at least Vista, can pause live tv, ffw and rwd timeshift. It only cant rwd to an before watched channel.
