Hi

After I have scanned my movies with Moving Pictures, I can see that there is several titles in different languages for a movie. Is there a way to choose language and title would be in that language? For example if I have japanese movie, title in japan is quite useless.

It seems that Moving Pictures uses summary from IMDB. Is it possible to use only short version of it, Plot? Summary don't fit in one screen and it contains too much information, sometimes even spoilers. I think plot could be enough in most cases.

Great! I have to try it as soon as I get home. Maybe this could be integrated in Moving Pictures, as an option. User could choose which one he wants to get..

What about the title language problem? Has anyone found a solution to this? It might be enough to get all titles in English.

That's how it works already. You add it as a data source in the config (choose data sources on the movie importer tab, then click the plus arrow,) and you can choose which one is default (by moving it to the top of the list.) You can refresh the data for individual movies from the movie manager tab in the config, click the black arrow next to the green refresh looking arrow and it will give you a list of all your sources.

What about the title language problem? Has anyone found a solution to this? It might be enough to get all titles in English.

I also have this problem, I currently solve it by manually renaming movies to their English name in the movie manager.
EDIT: I thought about it a little, and it seems like this could be solved by modifying the scraper to use an alternate title if the language of the movie is not English. I may look in to actually doing this, we'll see if I get motivated.

alternate titles are already retrieved and stored in the DBase. These values are also already presented to the skin.
You can use #MovingPictures.SelectedMovie.alternate_titles
or #MovingPictures.SelectedMovie.extra.alternate_titles.1
#MovingPictures.SelectedMovie.extra.alternate_titles.2
Display varying up to the max defined value in the configuration screen.
Any logic based on movie language is not included.
E.g. the movie Battaglia di Algeri, La (Battle of Algiers) has language Italian so the movie title does match.
For alternate titles though the first one is marked as: A Batalha de Arge
the second is: Bataille d'Alger

In short, you can display alternate titles, but they may be as even or more incomprehensible than the original movie title

Is it possible for alternative titles to be connected to certain languages? In IMDB there is a following field for Devil's Backbone movie:

If we have this kind of data on our database, it should be possible to choose preference language for title.

Ok, the database does not store the extra info for the alternate titles, so it is not possible to use this information after the scraper scrapes. I have created an alternate scraper that should do the job you are looking for.

I haven't done too much testing, but here is what it should do:
If the 'Language' field for the movie is anything but English it will search for the first alternate title containing either 'USA' or 'English title' and assign that as the main title for the movie. When you are picking the appropriate movie from the list of possible matches, it will still show up with the original IMDb title, however once you select it it should name your movie properly.

I was running into a problem where it would set the 'sort by' field to the original foreign title, so I started hard setting that in the scraper as well (stripping the preceding 'the') I didn't see any other scrapers manually setting the sort by field, so I'm not sure why my version had to do it manually, some documentation would really be good.

I am attaching 2 versions, one which pulls the full summary, and one which pulls the short plot. Both use the new English alternate title. If anyone runs into problems let me know and I will take a look.
