I live in the US....receive channels over the air...installed MP1...the systems shows live TV fine....

I can not figure out how to get the EPG into MP1. I have tried webEpg...the only mapping choises are yahoo, and they only have regional selections, not local channels. Even then when I map the channels...it only imports 2?

Is there someone who I can hire to remotely get this going? Or a simple guide? I get scared with command line stuff.

Please!!!!!

The easiest way to get a epg in the USA is the SchedulesDirect plugin I think the subscription to the service is $25 now. for some reason what the rest of the world gets for free someone thinks we here should have to pay for.
See here: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/schedules-direct-and-or-epg-issues.101264/
and here: http://code.google.com/p/mp-schedulesdirect/

There are a couple of other ways using xmltv also for free WebGrab+Plus: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/webgrab-tvtoday-quick-install-guide.95335/

And mc2xml: http://mc2xml.hosterbox.net/

I personally have used all 3 at different times I use mc2xml with the Microsoft legacy service now, I am from the USA and use Comcast cable, Microsoft legacy service gives me the most complete EPG for free as it gives me the series names and titles. SchedulesDirect was the easiest to setup and gives you a complete EPG if you don't mind the subscription cost. and some have said it gives a better OTA (over the air) guide. WebGrab+Plus grabs from TV Guide and works well, i find it not as complete with local channels as mc2xml as it only gave me the series names with no title on some local channels, However i have been told that mc2xml with the Microsoft legacy service is not complete when using OTA.

Once you decide which method you want to use sing out if you are having problems and one of the nice folks here will help you out

    Hey Jordanf,

The setup for US EPG is frustrating and it took me a lot of time to figure out how to get it working. The xmltv/mc2xml info and link from TLD is what I'm using and there are instructions in that link on how to download and setup mc2xml and xmltv.

For WebEPG the yahoo_com option is old and there is a more up to date version of the imdb_com you can download. You need to customize the imdb_com file to add your list of local channels using tv listing info from imdb_com. A few months ago I responded to a different WebEPG message with info on how to get started and links to other messages with a more up to date version of the grabber and setup info. https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/does-not-find-grabbers-when-mapping.105521/

I've started working with robbo100 to add US info for ATSC channel scanning and EPG setup to his MediaPortal Setup Guide. Maybe this is the kick in the butt I need to finish my write-up and send it to robbo100.

I have tried everything....I really want MP to work, but why can media center do this without any issues? This is crazy?

I can't even figure out how to use schedules direct- I would be happy to pay 25$

Hi Jordanf, I was just checking in to see how it was going.
It looks like RonD has given you the links to all the info for SchedulesDirect, just let us know if you are having any problems and we can help you get it set up.
I know it is frustrating but you only have to do it once then run the BackupSettings plugin: to save all your settings so if you ever need to reinstall MP everything will be set back up.

    BackupSettings plugin: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/backupsettings-for-tv-server-and-media-portal.45715/

I think all of us in the United States is having / has had this same problem. The WebEPG grabber files included with MP do not work as-is, but the good news is that it can be fixed. It's not that hard once you figure it out.

$25/year is not a lot of money to pay for having the convenience of SchedulesDirect. But personally, my goal in building my own HTPC was to do it all with free software, so I went with WebEPG and the IMDB TV website. The www_imdb_com.xml file just needs to be edited and customized for your own area, TV provider and channels. Here's how I did it:

Step 1: Go to http://www.imdb.com/tvgrid . Enter your zip code and TV provider. You should see the complete listing for all your TV channels.

Step 2: Find the www_imdb_com.xml file in your \Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\WebEPG\grabbers\US folder, open it in Notepad. You will see a few lines that look like this:
    Code:
    <Channel id="wwwww" siteId="xxxxx/?zip=yyyyy&amp;tv_prov=zzzzz" />
Here, wwwww=the name of the channel (should be the same as listed in TV Server); xxxxx=the name of the channel as shown in the left-hand column of the IMDB website (TBS, MSNBC, etc.); yyyyy=your zip code; zzzzz=the codename of your tv provider (it's shown in the url of the IMDB TV listings)

Step 3: Remove those lines from the xml file and replace them with new lines. Each channel needs its own line, following the template listed in the code above. The zip code and TV provider should be the same on each line. When you're done with all channels, save it as an xml file with the same filename.

Step 4: In TV Server Configuration, go to Plugins -> WebEPG. Map all of your channels using your new www_imdb_com.xml file. When that's done hit Grab Now and it should work.

Once I got this working it worked great and I never had to mess with it again.

By the way, the reason WMC does it automatically without any trouble is because Bill Gates paid millions of dollars to set up an EPG data service just for WMC. So if someone could donate that kind of money, I'm sure we could make the same thing for MediaPortal. ;)

    Thanks....
The website imdb, only lists the generic eastern US channels...none of the local ones.

I did get schedule direct working!!!!! Now I need to figure out how to sort the channels so they make sense...and number them like I was used to.
