Total noob, please help (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I feel like such a tard - just got MP today. Can someone help me to customize my menu screens/skins? I only want a couple of buttons on my main startup screen = my hardrive movies, dvd (the drive), Netflix, Hulu and thats it. I installed the MediaPortal program and it gave me that default "blue" skin + menus. I dont know how to customize it.

I checked this guys setup out on Youtube. It looks really awesome. YouTube - MY HTPC SETUP VIDEO SHOWCASE (USING MEDIA PORTAL)

I downloaded Moving Pictures but it doesnt show up on my menus, so I assume I need to customize it.

after installing moving pictures you will have to enable it, if its not by default. go to mediaportal configuration.exe for that
under plugins you can enable it, oh and also maybe move it to "home menu" instead of having it inside plugins.
you will need to configure the folders moving pictures must "supervise" for movies.

What I did was install the latest beta version of MP, then Moving Pictures worked from the menu. Still, there is a ton of crap on the main menu I would like to get rid of. Did you check that guys vid? I want something exactly like that. How the heck do I get his opening screen?

to get rid of menus you dont want go to the plugin section i said before in configuration.exe / plugins and "disable" what you dont want.
ie. radio, video, tv, games, etc...

as for the skin, you should browse through the popular skins section too decide which one you like more.

Yeah this default skin that came with StreamMP is ok but not great. I like the Youtube vids homepage skin. When you get inside the menu, then the plugin kicks in so it doesnt matter. Its just the homepage one I want to change. Trying to swap it now. Will keep you posted. If you have that link of the top skins please post for me and the other tards that read this. Thanks man.

This is probably a dumb question, but if replace Stream MP with Monochrome, will I lose my Moving Pictures and TV Series menus? Thanks guys.

UPDATE: I tried a couple of skins and link Streamed MP the best. However, I disabled every single plugin except for 2, but they are all still showing up on the menu?

The video was originally from THIS thread. It contains information about how the machine you are looking at was set up.

Im not able to view the video, but I think the confusion about home screen is because its possible to use two kinds of home screen - HOME and BASICHOME. The control for which screen MP starts on is in General options of MP config.

For information on how to modify skins, please see the skinning section of the Forum. This will also answer your other question about which skins are 'popular'. There's also plenty of information there about how to edit menus....

Thanks for that link. Very useful. Will check it out. I actually found that Streamed MP has a exe for editing menus so thats great. Will play around with it tonight. Wish I could just emulate that other guys desktop. He said he wasnt using "basic home" of Streamed. I cant seem to find that setting. Will post when I do or please let me know if anyone knows. Thanks again all!

Does anyone know of a vid tutorial on how to build StreamedMP menus? I tried building one and I got major error messages. Will try again tonight but I dont know what happened.

MP Config -> General -> Start with basic home [yes/no]

I recommend you use streamed MP
start with basic home = yes
run streamed MP basic home editor to customize

(note streamed MP only edits basic home, if you want to use normal home then to edit the order you have to use MP Config -> plugins -> home -> customize... to remove items from normal home, then disable relevant plugin eg. settings/radio etc...)

Uggggh thanks man. I feel like such a tard. I was using MediaPortalConfiguration.exe to edit the Normal Home and couldnt figure out WTF was going on. I set it to basic now and will try edit it. Reason I went to normal was cause I didnt like the Basic's wallpapers but I will try edit them.
