Ok, so I have installed MP and everything is great but I have a few question that have left my simple mind stumped.

What I can do:

I am able to watch TV on MP using my Hauppauge 250 card so long as I leave the channel on 3 (and only channel 3) and use the STB remote to change the channel on the STB.

I get that:

I need to use an IR blaster to control my set top box. I need this so MP can change the channel on my STB when I hit the channel change button on my Hauppauge remote.

It seems that:

With or without an IR blaster it seems like if I hit the channel change button on my Hauppauge remote then I will change the channel on my PVR card to something other than channel 3. At that point it will not matter what my STB is on, I will have just screen snow.

My question:

How does the IR blaster solve this problem

Conclusion:

Maybe I am thinking way too hard about this. Money is not the issue so I am happy to buy a MCE remote if I can just load a plug in run a wire to my STB and forget about the rest. Is this possible? I also don’t mind paying the fee for the EPG company that replaced Zap2It.

Any thoughts? If I spend much more time on this my wife will kill me

I am a little surprised that the STB is connected via (I assume) coax to the card if it is channel 3. Isn't there a S-video out on the STB? You'll get a better picture that way. And your question becomes a lot easier to answer.

Once you have it hooked up this way, then the MP config would get channels added to it like "external channel 6 on S-video". This way it would know to use the blaster.

Sorry I can't give specifics, as I use TV2 - can't say exactly how to set up TV Server.

goto setup, tv- channels. click on each channel and make sure that you set the correct option as how the video is received from stb. then setup irblaster to send appropriate commands to stb.

also make sure to back up the cannel configuration after you are done because when you install again, you will have to gothru each channel config again unless you have a back up file to inport from. this will take anywhere from 15 min to an hour depending how many channels you have/want.
