Transcoding Utilities (1 Viewer)

Greetings!
I'm building up my third HTPC and it sounded like MP was just the ticket for what I wanted to do. Prior machines used Arcsoft 3.5 as the app, and PCTV as the app.

I intend to use the machine as an adjunct to my Comcast HD DVR (Michigan, USA) to record and store programs that I might want to keep around for a while and don't want taking up space on the DVR. Also, some times there are three desirable programs on simultaneously and my HD DVR only has two tuners. I'll input the signal from a cable line.

My plan is to transfer recorded programs to DVD so I can sneaker-net them to a Blue Ray player in my family room. The HTPC will be dedicated to recording, transcoding and DVD burning, and located in a utility room.

I originally expected MP to include transcoding utilities, but now that I've got it installed and running, I can see that it doesn't. I suppose I should have read things more thoroughly.

My question is, what are the top candidates for transcoding utilities? Fast, reliable, and affordable?

Fremake video converter is the best one i have used, uses cuda if you have nvidia graphics as well, video can be edited inside the program to cut out adverts, and will then do batch encodes to iso, or single to burn dvd.
