Trouble with HD channels (2 Viewers)

Hi all,

we've been using XP MCE for some years, and it seems to have given up the proverbial ghost, so after some searching decided to give MP a try. It's fantastic. And I know it can do a whole lot more than I've tried yet.

However, the one problem I have that I can't resolve is using the HD channels here in Australia. All the SD channels work well, and some of them weren't working at all in MCE, but the HD channels just show a frozen picture. I expect it's a simple solution, but don't know where to look.

Sorry for the lack of info in this request as well. I tried to do a log report, but it didn't work. If I get that up I'll attach it later.

Thanks for any help and/or guidance.

    Hi and welcome Bones :)

Sounds like a classic codec issue. My understanding is that HD channels in Australia use MPEG 2 but I'm not 100% sure of that - logs would be useful. The reason creating logs would not work for you is probably because you haven't changed any settings in MediaPortal configuration. That in turn would mean you haven't made any codec choices and might explain why you're having problems in the first place.

Those settings are critical for reliable TV playback. If you haven't set them then I advise you to take a look at them.

Getting back to the log thing: open MP configuration, select whichever option you prefer (advanced or simple mode), click OK, then OK again. After that you'll be able to use the watchdog to grab your logs.

Thanks for that mm. I went for ffdshow and followed the instructions, and now seem to have the HD channels working. Frustratingly one of the other stations seems to have dropped out, but I'll keep checking to see if that is an ongoing problem.

Can't work out the Watchdog - which is a bit embarrasing. Once I get there, I'll attach the log.

    Appreciate the help you've given.
