My htpc is connected to my receiver (which controls my video output) via htmi cable. When playing original dvds show only a black screen when playing back. I guess this is some protection thing going on...anyone out there know how to work around this?

Tell me the connections first, it could be the video signal is being output to a different connection this happened to me on my receiver when I hooked the HDMI for my Play station 3. Look in your manual for how to change the video output if your receiver has this option, I own Sony so not sure if other brands have the option. the sony receiver I have it was so confusing how to change the setting.

:)

With some DVD's I sometimes get the same....try one of the following:

    1) Skip through the ZOOM options, see if one of them shows a picture.
    2) Pause, and un-pause...
    3) FFW, REW the DVD....
    4) Try a different Codec...I know PowerDVD sometimes cause problems.
