So i have been looking to get premium HD into media portal for a long time without much luck. Does anyone know of any tuners that can take a cable card to decode the premium HD that work with media portal? I know there are others out there but i have read info that they only support programs like windows media center.

I think your best bet for getting premium HD recording is the Hauppauge HD-PVR... it takes the component out of a settop box along with dolby digital sound (5.1) and creates a h.264 file.

Cable card sounds nice in principal, but is almost definitely not going to work in a DIY-type setup...

    Cheers.

I guess my whole point it to bypass the set top box.
Like the ceton card can do with Windows Media Center. I just dont understand why HD is any different then any other tv tuner. Mediaportal can use for example Hauppauge tuners. What prevents mediaportal from using the ceton card.

While i havent actually used a ceton card i mean it appears to be a full replacement of the set top box if you use it with WMC, however i use media portal for to much and am just looking for any solution to record HD TV within media portal. Maybe i will have to make it so i use both WMC and media portal :/
