Hi Everyone,
I'm considering building myself a DVR, but before buying the stuff needed like capture card, etc.. I would like to get some things clarified and make sure that I will be able to use it.
- I'm in a University apartment and cable is provided from the university. There is no such thing as a cable box or anything. Every apartment has a coaxial cable and you just plug it in to the TV.
- Zap2it program guide is there in channel 12.
- My TV is a regular TV (nothing fancy). It has the normal ports (white/red/yellow) to connect a DVD player and the port for coaxial cable.
So my questions are as follows.
- I downloaded the XMLTV guide but seems like it doesn't match the programs that are on my cable. Is there a national standard for channel numbers? (for an example I get Animal planet on ch102, FX on ch101. is it the same for anyone else in USA?)
- I'm in central time zone. do i have to configure it any where in Media portal?
-How does the connectivity thing works? Do i connect the coaxial cable to the capture card and connect the TV to my VGA card?
- If so I always needs to keep the PC running even to watch a live show. right?
Is it possible to record a program on another channel
Thanks everyone in advance
