I wanted to update this thread for others with the same problem. Nvidia customer support suggsted loading older drivers see instructions and results below... Thanks for all the efforts you took to send us this information we requested. The issue you are experiencing is not a general behavior of the graphics card or the graphics driver. Hence, in order to troubleshoot the issue I would request you to install the display driver version 182.06 using the driver cleaner software by following instructions described below. Please visit the link below to download the display driver: GeForce Release 182 * Once you download the file, Please perform the below mentioned steps to uninstall the drivers currently installed on your PC, 1. Right click on the My Computer icon on the desktop. 2. Select properties. 3. In the next window select Hardware and then select Device Manager. 4. On the Device Manager Window click on the (+) sign next to Display Adapters. 5. Double click on the Graphics Card Option. 6. On the Graphics Properties Page, select driver and click on Uninstall to uninstall the Graphics Drivers. After uninstalling the older drivers, please visit the link given below to download and run the driver cleaner utility on your Computer. Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com (Remove only NVIDIA display driver using this utility) After downloading and running the driver cleaner utility, please double click on the driver file to install the drivers for your graphics card. In case if the issue persists then please try the driver version 178.24. Please visit the link below to download the display driver: GeForce Release 178 Please let me know if your issue has been resolved. Best regards, Matiuj NVIDIA Customer Care Both 182.06 and the older 178.24 partially resolve the problem. With either of the older drivers I am able to turn off the TV and turn it back on and get the picture to come back. Both 185.85 and 186.18 fail this test. So whatever changed between 182.06 and 185.85 broke the HDMI handshake with my TV. I called Panasonic and they were very helpful in diagnosing this issue. They stated that the HDCP handshake was being forced to repeat by a reboot and that the "authentication forever" signal was not properly maintained. They checked the firmware version of my TV, it was up to date, and they suggested a new HDMI cable. I got a new HDMI cable and it resolved the hibernate issue. So in summary two issues, bad drivers, anything newer than 182.06 and a bad hdmi cable. I have confirmed this by again installing the newer drivers with the new cable and it still fails.
