Gday everyone

Long time MCE user here. Every year or two I download the latest version of MP to see how it is going but for one reason or another I always end up going back to MCE. However I downloaded MP 1.3 last week and was quite impressed so I spent a bit of time setting it up properly with the intention of having it as my main HTPC front end.

All went fine for a few days but then for no apparent reason opening MP stopped working. Simply trying to open MP caused Windows 7 to say the program had encountered an error. I couldn't even open the MP configuration tool (TV server tool was still working though). There was nothing at all in the logs to indicate what the problem might be so I did a reinstall (without uninstalling). Same issue. MP wouldn't even start and would just crash immediately with no error message. I was resigned to uninstalling and reinstalling from scratch so I did that last night.

After the reinstall everything seemed fine. I went through the process of setting up folders, scanning video/music folders and installing the plugins that interested me (my tv series, fanart handler and online videos). Fired up MP and it was working fine again...except TV. When clicking on any of the TV options (live TV, guide, recordings, search etc) nothing happens and it just stays on the home screen. Checking the logs it seems this is the error I am getting any time I click on TV from the home screen.

The actual TV server appears to be set up fine. Channels are scanned and I can preview them fine in the TV server setup.

Any ideas what I can do to fix the issue? A third install and configuration in the space of a week would be quite annoying.

    Hello BGH

Do you have the TvPlugin.dll somewhere inside your MediaPortal install folder?
The typical MP install folder is c:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal.
I'm at work, but off the top of my head I think it is meant to be inside the plugins\Windows subfolder... or something like that anyway.

If you haven't got that DLL then you need it - TV and radio can't possibly work without it.
If you have got the DLL, open up MP configuration, go to the "plugins" section and just double check that you haven't disabled either the TV or radio plugins.

    Thanks mm

I too am at work at the moment, so will check things when I get home. Last night when researching this problem I did see another thread mentioning to check if the TV plugin shows up in the list of plugins. I remember checking and noticing that it didn't.

I will have a look for the actual dll when I get home.

If it can't be found, is it possible to install it alone without having to re-install MP?

Yes, it is possible. You'd have to copy and paste a bunch of DLLs into the right places, but it is definitely doable.

Do you know where I can find how to do that, or at least point me in the right direction in regards to what to search for?

If you give me about an hour to get home (still at work) then I can post instructions (and required files) for you here.

    Kiwi. :)

    Here are the instructions:
    (0. Close MediaPortal and MediaPortal configuration.)
    1. Copy the following files from your TV Server install folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\) to your MediaPortal install folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\):
    • Gentle.Common.dll
    • Gentle.Framework.dll
    • Gentle.Provider.MySQL.dll
    • Gentle.Provider.SQLServer.dll
    • MySql.Data.dll
    • TvBusinessLayer.dll
    • TvControl.dll
    • TVDatabase.dll
    • TvLibrary.Interfaces.dll
    2. Download and extract the attached TvPlugin.dll into the plugins\Windows subdirectory of your MediaPortal install folder.

After doing this you may need to reconfigure TV in MediaPortal configuration. This will depend on how radical your uninstall/reinstall was.

Hopefully the previous issues with MP not starting won't ever happen again. However, if they do I'd highly recommend asking for help here before resigning yourself to the previous course of action. We could save you a lot of time... and potentially find a problem that we should fix (which would save other people from going through the same thing you have).

    Sweet as bro!

TV is now up and running again. In hindsight I can now obviously see that I was missing the TV plugin as all the options relating to it were missing from the configuration tool and on the settings screen.

Thanks heaps for your help. The only other thing that was missing was gentle.config. Luckily MP had created a backup of my config files from when I did have TV working and I just grabbed it from there.
