Just wondering why I have to set the codec for the tv plugin in the "Movies" section of MP setup, rather than in the "TV" area?

It's a bit confusing and didn't realise until I read it somewhere here.

It also introduces issues if using ffdshow postprocessing for DVD upscaling...

i agree with scythelt, makes the seperation easier, and new users to MP will be able to figure it out as well first up, just a thought, got my vote

Are you guys sure this is really the way it is in TVE3? I am setting up the codec in my Movies section with a codec called DNTV, and in my TV section i am using the Cyberlink DTV codec... and when checking this using the GraphEdt tool, the different codecs are used for TV and DVD.

I am not sitting at my HTPC right now so i cannot confirm this in the MP logs, but i am confident that the GraphEdt tool tells me otherwise.

Scythelt, you are also saying that the codec used for movies also applies to DVD postprocessing... isn't the DVD codec and postprocessing used for that?

    Cheers,
    Jens

I was using dscaler for my tv codec - changed the "movies" codec to purevideo and the tv was changed to using purevideo. At least that's how I remember it working a few months ago.

I haven't played with it since, but perhaps it's been fixed in later svn's.

I'll have a look tonight and confirm whether it's still an issue or not.

i think he is referring to this, which is what i do , i have my movies set to use ffdshow to post process any of the dvds i have stored on my hdd , so when the dvds play straight from the hdd it upscales to like 1330x1080 instead of the usual 720x576 res. This works fine however i have found that the tv engine seems to use my movies settings and not the televisions settings so SD tv here in oz of 720x576 actually gets upscaled to 1330x1080 which makes my computer lag.

I haven't checked it again recently but i'm fairly certain the codecs for tv on my setup are reflected on whats in my movies config and not television config

G'day mates... used to live in Sydney during the last 10 years but now i have moved to sunny Sweden... Hope you guys have a terribly cold winter back home! :) probably very much like our swedish summer!!

Anyway, i will have to test this as i am now not 100% sure about this. :-| But, thinking about it, it kind of makes sense that it does use the Movie settings as it theoretically plays a movie (MPG or TS)...seeing that it always does timeshifting and this is like playing a movie... am i completely wrong here??

    Cheers,
    Jens

na i think thats why it uses the my movies section cause technically MP thinks it just an everyday mpeg file you are playing , and its damn cold down here in canberra and i have heard sydney harbour is full of all sorts of stuff from the storms that washed up that tanker

I can confirm that in the MP Configuration app, the video codec settings in "TV" don't seem to have any affect when using the TV Plugin and codecs must be set in "Movies".

This has pretty obvious repercussions for those of us using ffdshow post-processing for Movies that we don't want activated for Live TV.

It is also very confusing for new users.

After trying a SVN from 2 days and with some info from the guys on IRC, TVE3 codec in single seat is set under TV but doing multiseat, the codec is used from Videos. I confirmed it via graphedit and it checked out.
