Hi,

Today I wanted to perform a clean install of Media Portal and TV Server.

I uninstalled both MP and TV Server and re-installed them both, however I noticed TV Server had all it's original settings still there - I expected to have to at least Import TV Channels and Scheduled recordings (as per the instructions)

I noticed the SQL Server login came up during the uninstall of TV Server and simply selected "Test" and then closed the window - the uninstall would not continue without doing this.

My questions is:

- is this normal
- have I done a clean install given all the settings were still there?

Regards

Graham

Hi,

Not keen to re-install the OS as well. I was just refering to a clean install of MP & TVS i.e. would I have expected to have all the settings in TVS rather than the defaults after a re-install?

Cheers

Graham

I think to get rid of your settings you have to choose the option to delete the database once you've tested your connection to the database. I'm not in front of my setup to be more precise.

there may actualy be a problem with mediaportal not removing some things even after the two promts warning you of it. I'm not sure. is the version by any chance stored in the ddatabase?

And yes that sounds fairly close to a clean install but I think on that database window after you press test the next button is a delete database button, you need to press that. I would also go looking in program files and see if there is a mediaportal folder to delate, It just left an empty folder for me but maybe yours got left with something.
I don't think many people would expect you to format every time you need to reinstall mediaportal.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I'm on Version 1 final by the way.

Good to know that somebody could confirm the SQL Server window came up and asked to "Test". I don't remember any "delete database" option, but will look a little closer next time.

Anyhow, the reason I did a clean install was that last time it seemed to fix my S3 resume issues under Vista 32. I had problems with "no TV Tuner Cards available" or just not waking up at all. I'm not sure about last time, but I noticed this time these issues started after a doing a Windows Update, so I thought installing MP over the top of this might help.

I'm please to say that I tested 2 recordings last night and they seemed to work OK.

Another thing I noticed happening (and I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not) was no TV Tuner card after resume when I did not have a wireless internet connection. Would this possibly affect it? This issue seems to be caused when my wireless laptop is connected - I think the Media Centre might have issues getting a connection. I have been told about a "DHCP" setting which is meant to help with this issue. Any help fixing this issue appreciated here. I have a Netgear DG834G Wireless router.

    Regards

    Graham
