First I would like to point out that I'm a total newbie
The computer specified above is my media portal TV server. I know that it does not met the RAM memory requirement (and some others) but it works ok, as it only has one client. When I tested the server initially the server and client ware connected directly via lan cable, the performance was ok, CPU usage was ~50% on the server, and zapping was a bit sluggish on the client but pretty much ok. The only issue is that the TV service occasionally crashes, and then i have to restart the service.

But I am going to move the server to a remote location and it will be connected to the client via wireless, and i don't think that I can establish a bandwidth like MP used when I tested it (8-10mbps). My question is, is there a possibility to somehow compress the stream, or something like that. I know that VLC can stream a solid looking picture @ 1mbps (using DiVX or WMV) but VLC isn't as practical as MediaPortal.

Are you using the analog tuner still? If your tuner has a hardware encoder or software encoder that supports quality control then it may be possible to use the quality control settings described in the wiki -->here<-- ("quality control" section). Use the "check" button to test if it is supported.

If not then I think iPiMP has transcoding abilities - I'm not sure if you can use that to stream to a regular MP client.

And thanks for the quick reply, sadly yes I still use analog, and pretty much everybody does. Digital TV is slowly expanding, we have only one IPTV provider, Terrestrial is still in experimental phase, and the cable TV provider mentioned above does offer digital TV, but they use NDS protection and you have to use their STB, and smart card to watch it. So if you have a DVB-C PCI card or a DVB-C tuner in your TV it's pretty much worthless. The TV card i'm using is a budget one, so yes it has software encoding, and I did try to experiment with quality control but I didn't see any changes in picture quality or in used bandwidth.

I'll have a look at iPiMP, I hope it can do what i need, I just need to put up the wireless equipment first and get the link established and than I will try to get the server working
