hi,
it looks like the tv service is not reachable or not so correctly installed...
i would try first whether there is any connection to the database possible,
look at the wiki here: TV Server - Database Connection - MediaPortal 1 - MediaPortal Wiki
DB shortcut attached
and here: Known Issues - MediaPortal 1 - MediaPortal Wiki
if nothing helps, please also attach ya full log files.

thanks, but i can't even open MP TV configuration....this error messages just comes up instead. Services.msc reports that TVService is 'Stopping' and options to Stop, Start, Restart are greyed out.
This is a new install of w10 64 pro. I've tried uninstalling MP and reinstalling. Mmm.

Hmm.
be sure to clean everything that matter (mysql,program/user folders, temp and so on)...or just do a lazy but stress-free new clean windows 10 installation.
and as you write the thing is still new I would almost even consider it for time reasons but this also depends on the hardware^^

The error message you're seeing is different, but the cause is the same. I suspect when you did your new install of W10 you chose a different name for your PC.

thanks, yes, as it happens I did change my PC name to something like LoungeHTPC from the one Microsoft assigned to me.
I know how to change pc name, however I can't recall what my original PC name was....given that I can't start the config utility for TV Server Configuration any suggestions on how I could resolve? Is there a text file I can edit allow TV Service to start? Cheers, Geoff.
