Hi all,

Have been using mediaportal for a while now, had lots of problems to start with (kept crashing) but I thought I had it sorted. It seemed that the CPU cooler was coming unstuck from the cpu on the server causing the stream to stop.

Now I'm experiencing the same problems though this is not the same issue. I've ended up with two Haupauge TD500 cards in the server (it worked fine with just one of these) so four tuners, but I often find the TV service has stopped, and this happens more when the box is recording or timeshifting (or both).

Now the signal seems to be poor now for no obvious reason, if I plug the tv into the same output on the amp it receives a good signal. And when timeshifting earlier the stream seemed to be breaking up a lot before it all fell over again at 19:56. The tv server was showing the signal quality as jumping between 20 and 80 percent beforehand.

Once the tv server has stopped the client then freezes on the garbled last frame and I can't get it to do anything, why is this? I have to use task manager to end MP and restart it (by logging off as the task bar vanishes?). I can't understand why the MP Client doesn't allow the stream to fail or me to stop the stream using the remote.

Is there a way of getting the TV service to restart if it fails? Why does a poor signal make the service crash?

Can nobody even point me in the right direction of what to look for? Looking at the logs nothing special happens, it just stops, why is nothing logged? Can I turn on any extra debug to help find the issue?

Are these haupagge cards just a pile of crap? I'm beginning to think they are, as I used to use Myth TV and had similar problems then (though the tv server wouldn't actually crash)

AW: TV server crashes, takes out client too?

Hi bovaboy,

did you find a solution ?
The same seems to happen here, sometimes by unknown reasons (may be tuning attempts) sometimes when scheduled record starts.

Hi Gregor sorry no joy here but I've had no time, I was beginning to think that it's only me.
What tunes are you using, I was going to borrow a couple off a friend to try, I think its the rubbish td500s I'm using. Does your client crash too if timeshifting when it goes wrong? Whenever this happens to me the screen freezes on a garbled scrambled last frame.

AW: TV server crashes, takes out client too?

I have two PCs running
1. WIN7 32, DigitalDevices dual DVB-S Card, Driver-2.1.1.33-x86
2. WIN7 64, Nova S Plus, 88x_2_126_28225_WHQL

I think it started with MP version 1.1.2, on both machines (never at the same time) it happens that TVService hangs and cannot be stopped with Service Manager. (I need to run the 'kill' tool as administrator to be able to stop TVService)
Since some days I switched of EPG grabbing for Radio and it did not happen again, but 2-3 days is not enough to be sure.
I will gather logs if it comes back.
