Hi,

Still trying to find my second DVB-T tuner...

I understand the best way to find it is to use TV-Server rather than the built-in configuration pages (which won't find both tuners), so I am in the process of running it.

I immediately get an SQL error sayin that it can't connect to the SQL server. I have used the default entries in all the boxes, and the password "MediaPortal", but I still get the error.
Maybe the default Hostnape, Dependency and Schema name (whatever that is) are wrong, or need modifying?

Any ideas what should be entered in these boxes?

Getting the same old error is almost as boring as watching BBC4..

    Well there's a blast from the past :)

    Anyway back to your problem, when you installed Mediaportal did you select the install with TVServer option, if not and you configured television from inside mediaportal configuration application, then this may be causing you a problem.
    The logs show nothing besides you have tried to install TVServer previously.

    Do you have "sqlbrowser" showing as a running service in task manager

    Might be worthwhile giving as much detail as possible, but here's a couple of links that may help.

    TV-Server/Configuration/SQL-Server - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

    TV-Server - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

    If you think you have mucked up in anyway, then uninstall and start over, user files to be deleted can be found at these locations.

    XP = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Appdata\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

    Vista = C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

    BTW which TV cards are you trying to setup.

    Paranoid,

    My nickname's nothing to do with the DJ (thankfully) it's a name I got stuck with at work, when I turned up in the world's rustyest Jensen, 25 years ago. Still stuck with the name and the car..

    To answer in order:

    "sqlbrowser" is not running... I have installed "sqlexpress2005" and "sql management studio express".

    I've updated my profile so my PC spec should now show...

    When I tried to configure the surface area in sql server, the PC crashed, so I tried to re-install sqlserver 2005 express. The installation failed saying that a beta version of Visual basic, Netframework or sql server was preventing installation. I have tried uninstalling all of these. Visual basic uninstalled ok, but the three versions of netframework I had would not install (just error messages saying can't remove).
    I'm assuming this may be the cause of my problem, but how do I remove all this rubbish if the uninstall commmand won't let me?

    I've tried a re-install of MP several times, but always get the same sql error, so I guess I need to address my netframework issues first...

    If you have .net errors, about the only thing you could try is removing them in safe mode (F8 advanced mode) and reinstalling once booted back into full xp admin account.

    If that don't work, i just reinstall the OS, its quicker :)

    Ray,

    Thanks for the pragmatic advice.

    I reformatted and re-installed Winsdws MCE and tried the MP install again. Ran the update wizard, and installed .NETFramework 2 (not Beta), and everything that was flogged-up as needed...

    Unfortunately, I get exactly the same SQL errors, so I'm no further on.....

    Still, the four days it took me at least kept me out of the shops at Christmas.

    I'm "playing for the other team" at the moment (MCE), just to get some recording capacity over Christmas, but I hope to return to MP soon as I can get these errors sorted.
