Hello.

I'm looking for the best way to get a DVR system going at home.
I live in Denmark, and i have Yousee as my DVB-C provider.

I have a server, which i intended to use for this, as it it always on.

Windows Server 2008 R2
Specs:
Fractal Design Define XL Black
ASUS P8H61-M PRO B3 Sandy Bridge
Intel Core i3 2100T Sandy Bridge
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1333MHz (2x4) Hypex
HP Smart Array P410 Controller med HP 512MB BBWC Upgrade
8 x Western Digital 1500 GB Green 64 MB

What I have come up with is that I must have a Backend , and Frontend.
Frontend is what I 'm used to, XBMC , whether it is on Windows or Linux then it should be easy to get up and running.
I already have XBMC up and running on 5 devices, and this is going to be the frontend.

The Backend I have a little trouble finding out what to do.
I have a basic package from YouSee , and i bought 3 extra channels, so I have a Yousee card, and must thus be able to decrypt channels, and the dream scenario is that I can do it on multiple channels simultaneously.
I am unsure if my server is good enough to be TV server?
I'm not sure if it 's backend or frontend that's performing decoding.

Also, i don't know which TV tuner to get.
I have only used this port on my motherboard
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16

These are available.
2 x PCIe 2.0 x1
1 x PCI

And of course there is USB ports available also.

Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards Dennis.

This is the best google translation I have ever seen, as for your questions I'm not the best to answer. But have you checked out the MP system requirements page in the wiki?

I ended up buying a PCI-E tuner from Digital Devices.

And everything seems right now, to be running smoothly!
Had some problems along the install and configuration, but it was just me skipping some important reading material, that i shouldn't have xD

Well, i kind of only have one "problem" now.

I do not wish to have timeshift on my Raid5 with 8 disks, so i was thinking of buying a SSD drive for timeshifting only.
I was thinking this SSD drive would be just fine.

    Any thoughts?

An SSD is nice because of the high I/O speed which can reduce zapping time a little bit... but using the SSD as a buffer is not ideal for the lifetime of the SSD. Refer to my comments here for an example:

With 8GB of RAM available you might want to consider a RAM disk instead.

I'm running other applications on my server, so i really don't have any free RAM to spare.
I thought of a RAM disk myself, but i only got like 300-400 MB i can spare.

And nice to share the math!

We are two in this house, i a would guess, that we watch 12 hours of tv per day, as it's most my girlfriend who's addicted,

So with your equation, a SSD would last about 2 years, yes?

Another option would be to buy more RAM, but that is just alot more expensive than a cheap small SSD.[DOUBLEPOST=1397818334][/DOUBLEPOST]Hmm, i installed ramdrive, and i have a small drive for timeshift now. only 1 GB.

I will see if this covers my needs, or else, i might just buy 2 x 8 GB ram for my server, then i would have plenty.
