TV-Server standby/hibernate (1 Viewer)

Hi all

I don't like my Media PC in the basement running permanently. Thereofre,
it would be nice if the TV-Server-Service could wake up the server for a recording and send it back to the previous state (standby/hibernate) after the recording even when no MediaPortal client is installed on the TV-Server (i.e. powerscheduler is not available). Most user-friendly would be if no additional plugin would be required. So based on the setting of the ordinary windows powermanagement, the PC might go into hibernate (while no recording is running) and is being woke up by the TV-Server-Service once a recording is to be done.

Likewise, it would be nice to have a Wake-On-Lan function built into the clients such that when the TV-Menu of the network client ist activated and the server is asleep, the magic packet is sent to wake up the server. I use the WOL-feature all the time to wake up my server by means of my pocketPC. It is really easy to implement.

Finally, it would be nice if it would be possible to define certain times in which the TV-Server should be active. What I mean is: usually I use the TV-Function only after coming home from work. Therefore, it would be nice if the server would wake up from hibernate in the evening at 7pm and go to sleep (if no recording is running) at midnight. Of course, if the WOL-function is implemented, this behaviour would be already included as the server PC is being activarted automatically once a client is started.

    I support this idea but I am afriad of the developers do not. :(

    Yeah not a bad idea. Personally I have about 5 server runing 24x7 in my basement but some that I WOL too. All these features could be implimented in a MP plugin + TVServer plugin. But I can understand that featurs like this would be fairly low on the core devs priority list :)

    The other option, and I'm not being sarcastic! Just get used to the idea of your server running 24x7 it's just a few dollars of electricty per/month but hey the components tend to last longer if they are left runing all the time. especialy the hard disks. Damage is done at startup. Just a thought :) I guess I'm asking why you don't want it running 24x7? :)

    Not a few dollars / month :

    my server : 150w = 3.6kwh / day
    in denmark a kwh costs 0.3USDollar => 1.1USD / day
    => almost 400USD / year :mad:

    I would very much like to have the ability to suspend

    Not only $$, but also CO2. Some countries are thinking of banning "Standby" switches and we are starting "always on".

    I'm not gonna use it (TV-Server 3) before hibernation works. I like 100 % of AxelSt's idea.
    It should be criminal to have a computer on for 24x7 without any (big) reason.

    Hi,

    I see in the svn of Tv-server :
    "added: tvservice now supports power management events"

    Does Tv server support hibernate and wake-up for a event now ???
