is it supposed to take that long? mediaportal version 0.2.3.0 took around 5 seconds to start up and now version 1.0 RC3 takes over a minute, and about 45 seconds of that is the TV-Server starting up.

(i uninstalled the tv server and then mediaportal started up in about 4 seconds and then i uninstalled and installed mediaportal with just the client to see if that would work and it took over 10 seconds to start up but i dont think that would work to watch tv, i think you need the server. i uninstalled deleting all prefs and everything too and did a clean install with server and it took over a minute again to startup. i dont actually have a card with a tuner on it so i might just install without tv stuff but i was wondering if it was supposed to take this long, cuz if it is i'll never use mediaportal to watch tv if i do ever get a card. i also dont want to have a tv server process always running like starting up with windows, thats a waste of resources and would also probably add a huge delay to my system startup time.)

Never noticed any delay, not sure whether its because you do not have anything configured, but as mine is coming out of standby, not from boot, just do not regard this as a major problem.

Which is more resource hungry, running Mediaportal to do your recordings as a program or TVServer as a service, hmm let me think!!

Most TV based programs now use services, MCE, gbpvr and almost all manufacturers own PVR software do this.

hm i was hoping for more replies on this. i just think its kinda weird that the last version of mediaportal, which included all the tv stuff, started up fast, but this version that has them seperate goes really slow.

it is cool that you can have scheduled recordings with just the service running, i didnt know that, but i wouldnt want to have to always have the service running even if i didnt schedule recordings, just so i wouldnt have a huge delay in starting mediaportal.

also, maybe unrelated, but i noticed at least three sql processes running all the time now even with mediaportal not open (even after uninstalling the tv server). anybody know why? last version didnt have that.

i had similar problems as you, you should first check if the tv service is running. in my case if it wasn't running for some reason, startup of mediportal took a long time

    Hi,
Attach your logs after a startup so it's possible to say where it hangs. Here it doesn't use more time then the wait for cards to be ready which i have set to 15 sec.....

so the service always takes a long time to start up? and my only options are to start it before mediaportal (like at system boot) and always have it running, or wait a long time for mediaportal to load?

that doesnt make sense to me that in the last version of mediaportal the program+tv started so fast but now the tv takes forever. i wonder if its something to do with my setup or something.

thanks for the reply, i'll try to post them tomorrow. its late where i am.

    heres the logs.
i was looking through them and it looks like the tv server never loads. and i dont think its set to load when my system starts so idk what the deal is. although if i manually start the service by going into tv-server configuration, then mediaportal loads fast. and i tried turning off my firewall, and tried turning off my antivirus so i dont think theyre stopping it from loading. i do have everything installed to custom directories though. idk if thats the problem. and i think when i installed mediaportal i might have had some version of Microsoft SQL Server already installed (i installed the one that mediaportal gets in a different folder though).

and these are from after doing an uninstall of mediaportal and clicking yes to removing all settings and everything, then reinstalling, and the only thing i changed after install was setting the skin to BlueTwo.

    Hello everyone,

I have the same problem as gamingexpert. I have MediaPortal RC3 (clean install, no SVNs) and it takes 25-30 seconds to load from boot. My computer is running on XP Pro SP3, 2Gb of RAM and AMD 4850e, OCed to 2.75, so I think there's plenty of resources. This only happens when the computers boots up. The load of TV-Server takes most of the time. The rest of MediaPortal (other plugins) loads fast. To be honest, I don't know where to look for the log file(s). Can anyone help me with this issue, please ? I'm thinking that when the computer boots up, one of the services does not load at startup and this causes TV-server to load that slow.
If I exit MediaPortal and I enter it again, from desktop, it loads fast. The load is slow only from boot-up.
    Thank you.

    Edit:
I have no TV or FM tuner installed on my HTPC.

MediaPortal loads slow after boot-up the computer

I was able to find the log files. I hope that they will have enough info to find what's going on. Again, after boot-up, MediaPortal starts everytime Windows starts. Most of the time to start MediaPortal is taken to start TV-Server. It looks like TV-Server is stuck for about 10-15 seconds, and after that everything is fine. All the other components and plugins load much faster. It may not be a big problem but its a little annoying. Today I installed the last SVN, the one for RC3. Thank you.

what i did to get the logs was start Mediaportal in Debug mode (theres a shortcut in the start menu). then after you close mediaportal it does everything for you and the zip of the logs should be on your desktop. and you dont need to use rapidshare, you can attach them by clicking reply and scrolling down to Manage Attachments, that opens a new window where u can upload them, then post the reply.

but i did see a lot of entries in the logs you found about not being able to log in, using the default username 'sa' and password 'MediaPortal'. so donno what thats about.
