Just tried to update the TV-server from RC1 to RC3. It failed.

    First message:
"TvService has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.". I did not send the report to MS.

    Then:
"SetupTv has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.". I again did not send the report.

Then I was congratulated with the successful installation.

The TV server configuration shortcut was recreated but it crashes immediately. :(

Now I have no option anymore to update. So I did a standard uninstall and then a new install. Exactly the same thing happened. According to the log all is fine?

I tried a complete clean-up, but again I see TvService crash. But the uninstaller finishes anyway. I did a clean install now. Seems to be OK, TV server configuration now works, and ... my settings still exist. I'm confused

    I have a similar problem

Installation from 1.0.2 to RC3 - first uninstall 1.0.2 then install. Instal bonbs out. Tried again and completed the istall. TV server didnt start...... but it had. Tried to use tv config but it crashes scanning........

Clean start - uninstall RC3 and clean up (not everything second of three options). Install and it fails but completes sucessfully. Trying tvsetup crashes (encountered a problem...... ) gathered all logs but that failed ...... screen shots attached

    Hi,

    i updated from RC1 to RC3 without a problem.

    The best way to do:

first check that Mediaportal.exe, TVService.exe and the Tray isn't running.
If they are, then kick them.

    Then start the installer.

This works for me since SVN 24xxx everytime nicely.
Allways if i forget to do this, i got this installer troubles too.

    Simone,

True, and there is no such thing as coincidence. I was referring to this part:

    [ INFO] Terminating processes ...
    [ INFO] StopService: TVservice
[ INFO] StopService: TVservice is not started.
    [ INFO] KillProcess: SetupTv.exe
[ INFO] KillProcess: SetupTv.exe is not running.
    [ INFO] filter registration...
    [ INFO] Installing TVService
    [ INFO] Finished Installing TVService
[ INFO] Doing post installation stuff...
[ INFO] Setting AccessRights to ProgramData dir and reg keys
    [ INFO] Starting SetupTv.exe --DeployMode --DeploySql:mysql --DeployPwd:MediaPortal...
    [ DEBUG ] FUNCTION .onInstSuccess
    [ INFO] ============================================================================================
    [ INFO] Logging stopped: 21.05.2010 19:01:01
    [ INFO] installer version: 1.0.7.0
[ INFO] MediaPortal TV Server / Client installation

And of course the hurtful congratulations from the installer.

If that renaming issue was a problem should the installer then have continued?

If I'm right there where other update problem reports that related to the TV service executable being locked. Considering the the failed directory rename, could this be related? Could it have to do with the fact that the machine had been hibernating before the update?

Attached the error from the event viewer, may this helps.

    Hi.
A similar issue happened to me.
I updated RC2 to RC3. I just closed MP (I did not stop TV Service) and started updating. During the RC3 installation a "TvService has encountered a problem and needs to close" windows message was displayed, but installation seems to end ok.
When started MP Configuration I noticed that a few options were not copied from my RC2 installation.

But when I tried to start TVServer Configuration, it crashes. When I start PM, I get several errors: "TV Service connection lost".
If I look at the services.exe, I noticed that TVService was not running, and it was in manual starting mode. I changed to automatic, and I manually started it. But a few seconds after, a new windows message appeared: "The service was started successfully, but then it was stopped again...". So I cannot manage to use the TV... :(

Running again the RC3 installation did nothing.

So, I performed an un-installation of TVService and run again RC3 install program, that now reinstalled TVService, and restarted windows. And now everything seems to be ok...

Some concluding remarks: it seems that there exists a few bugs:
    • Installation: it seems that it does not detect that TVService is running, or it is unable to stop it, or it tries to update it while running. In any case, the installation fails to update TVService properly, although it finishes without noticing the bad installation. Until this is fixed, if you are updating your system, first stop TVService.
    • TVService Configuration: it seems that it cannot be started if TVService is not running. Instead of detecting that and display an error message, it crashes. It also happens at MP Configuration / plugins / radio: it crashes when config button is pressed.
    • MP Configuration: Some configuration parameters are not kept in the updating process. I think that some of them are: skin selection (RC2: blue3wide, RC3: blue3), TV audio and subtitle settings (languages selected were missing), TV-DVD-Video post processing filters (missing), Power-Scheduler client plugin (was not enabled and the configuration was missing)...
Anyway, thanks to all the development team for this great work. Just hope that my information helps you to make even a better MP.

PD1: The error messages were translated by me, as my installation is in Spanish.
    PD2: Sorry for my English...
