I gave up ;-(

It was to much trouble with channelswitching and streams that didn't start. Tried both mediaportal/argus-tv as server and client. And as client I also tried xbmc. Tried diffrent versions of softcam internally in the server.
My family was patient for a long time, but I gave up after two months.

Anyone want to buy TV-cards and a cardreader?

Or perhaps I make an other attempt later.

Sorry to hear that...where do you think it failed? What devices did you try with?

Don't remember the names for it.
The softcam server (think it was newcs) seamd stable
But I think the problem was the plugin for mediaportal/argus-tv that called the softcam-server. It worked but was unstable.
Sometimes I didn't get a stream and sometimes I got message failed to. It was hard to find out exactly what went wrong.

Hope It works better for you, and maybe you can share you experiences.

I runned Windows Home server 2011 (based on server 2008R2) om the server. And windows 8 and windows 7 on the clients. Also tried rasbmc and got it to work one time.
