TV - HTPC Connection:

TV service crashes often when recording programmes on certain channels. Specifically, I have found that it mostly happens on the DVB-S2 Discovery HD channel in the Canal Digitaal/TV Vlaanderen package on Astra. The recordings are made using a FloppyDTV S2 tuner card.

In the Application event log, I find errors with description "Faulting application tvservice.exe, version 0.9.2.20078, stamp 48b92e8a, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.1433, stamp 471eb5ae, debug? 0, fault address 0x0001500a."

If I look in the TsWriter.log files I see a huge number of "Pid xx Continuity error..." lines logged just prior to the crash.

Apparently I am not the only one experiencing this problem, as it has already been reported earlier by another user, but not as a formal bug report, in this forum thread : https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/get-support-90/tvservice-exe-crashes-repeatedly-44419/

OK, thanks, for now I'm gonna call that plan B as further investigation has lead me to believe that the problem is related to/the same as the problem reported by various users in this thread: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/pre-1-0-rc1-273/hdtv-tuning-details-canal-digital-thor-30167/index1.html

Apparently their problems got fixed by applying floppydtv s2 hardware pid filtering for the offending channels. I can not find instructions anywhere on how to flag certain channels to employ hardware pid filtering however. Can someone point out on how I can do this?

Thanks!

Unfortunately its pretty hard to debug that issue (as it depends on the errors in the stream). Most likely some memcpy or similar fails when teh stream decoding produces incorrect "data".

Here's short instructions how you can provide more information about the crash:

Debugging/MemoryDump - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation
@tourettes: Thanks for the instructions. I'll put this in my bag of tricks to help track down other various issues. I don't experience a crash from a large number of contunity errors, but I am getting more that I ever had before. :D
