Hello,
I would like to add a possible cause of stuttering (at least, what caused the problem for me) : My HTPC case was not enough ventilated !

I started to pinpoint the problem after having succesfully ran mediaportal with a big domestic fan (60 cm) directly pointed toward the computer.

Something (Maybe the chipset or tuner card) was probably getting too hot, and started to cause issues. On my system, the problem appeared after about 1 hour of standard usage.

No problem anymore since i upgraded the PC case (from ACER L200 PC (hiper case) to Silverstone Lascala).

If you are playing High bitrate Mpeg4 files, you will get stutter on lower powered machines. The machines in my sig can handle most 720p and 1080i, but every once in a while a 720p encoded at a high bitrate will cause my machine to drop frames.

OTA HDTV (Mpeg 2 content) plays fine, if I use a hardware accelerated Mpeg2 codec like Purevideo.
