This is my first post on the forum and I am not sure where I should post this.

I have built my system using an HP Micro server and WHS 2008 V2. The server is permanently on and is connected to the TV by HDMI cable.
After quite a few problems I have it all up and running with just (at the moment) one small problem.

I want to be able to have full use of the system using just one remote and to this end I have a Microsoft MCE remote with the TV on/off button which has had the said button and the volume controls "programmed" from the TV remote.

The problem is when I switch on the TV it always reverts to showing the picture in native mode (i.e. not from the HDMI link) I have tried all the combinations of settings but cannot get past this problem.

I can get back to the Media Portal input with just one press of the AV input button on the TV remote.

I could fix this if there was another button on the MCE remote that was "programmable".

Has anyone any experience of this type of problem, any help would be very much appreciated.

I believe only TV-power and vol + vol - are programable.
You might however be able to program both commands (TV-ON + SET HDMI INPUT) to the TV-POWER button...

    Hi there,

From my expeience you can only program a single command to a button.

I assume there is nothing on the TV to default to HDMI?

What happens ifyou press the HDMI button with the TV powered off, does it turn on with this single press? (some do)

the htpc/server probably turns off the monitor out when it is idle, and if there is no hdmi signal the tv automatically switches inputs when it is turned on.

i suggest you press some buttons on the server before turning on the tv, so it turns on the video out prior to you turning on the tv. if this fixes the problem, then you can go into device manager in control panel and prevent server from turning off monitor when idle.

    Hi Everyone,

    Thanks for these suggestions.

I have checked in the TV manual and there is a setting to start up direct with a secondary input but not with HDMI.
I will switch two of the HDMI inputs over and see if that solves the problem, if not then I will try a button pressing exercise.

I will update the thread with any successes.

    Thanks again.

    Problem solved.

I switched two of the HDMI leads and the TV now defaults to Media Portal at switch on.

Thanks to everyone for their responses and help.
