I am currently running MediaPortal Stable Release V0.2.2.0 without much problems. However, I would like to try out the TVengine. I went to the installation guide and found out that other than needing to install the Server and Client, I also need to install MySQL 5 and other stuff. Are all those actually strictly required or can I do away with some of them? (For my case, I just want the new features like integrating as a window service and mpeg recording. My 'server' will be the 'client' as well)

    Hello Requient,

there is no way TV-Server will run without an SQL-Server. What "other stuff" do you have in mind ? I would recommend you to upgrade to MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 RC1 + SVN and be sure to also take the latest release of the TV-Server.

From this page, it was mentioned under Chapter 2: Installation that I require 4 items to be installed - SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, MySQL 5, Server and Client. I'm particularly curious about what the first two actually do.

No problem with that. Just would like some advice on this if you would so kindly help me - I downloaded one of those 'Nightly Builds' and I realised that when I ran it, it is some sort of installation. Is it actually supposed to be like that? A new installation which possibly overrides my current installation?
