well of course I'm aware of the difference my man. I spent over 35 years working in corporate USA where mind boggling amounts of cash were available to throw at projects, like MS has. If I had paid for MP, I'd be irate . It's free and I understand that. It's written by programmers who sometimes forget where some of the users are coming from,

We don't forget. We're just human, with families, jobs and lives outside of MediaPortal. If you don't like what you're seeing/experiencing with MediaPortal I'm truly sorry. You're fully entitled to cut your losses and go back to WMC, or try other software... or do whatever else you deem appropriate for your needs.

In the meantime, if you want to continue with MediaPortal I'm still here to help. It is easiest for me to help when you can ask specific questions.

I'm not mad. It's freeware. I suspect most volunteers desire software that is not controlled by MS. I can see that. I'd pay for a more user friendly install version of MP
I came here because win 10 has deleted WMC, though my brother has informed me his latest Win 10 update put WMC back in, that's odd

I still think I make some valid points in this thread, MP2 has no configuration tool that I can find, another user said to use MP1 instead. MP1 gave me a configuration tool. Advice and suggestions, like in the tv guide setup info, are just about the same thing in my world.

If the wiki contains technical terms that an understanding is not really needed to get the job done, then note that for the readers.
it's probably a situation where the developers write the wiki at a level of knowledge where other coder types understand that certain terms are descriptive, and people like me don't. I'm ignorant, not stupid, ignorant can be fixed.

    Sure. :)

You can't find a configuration tool because there is no such tool. Everything except the TV stuff (which is the only commonality with MP1) is configured from inside MP2. As I understand it, this is the same approach as WMC uses.

Advice and suggestions, like in the tv guide setup info, are just about the same thing in my world.
When I said the wiki doesn't offer advice, I meant that you won't find it saying things like "XMLTV is the best choice as an EPG source in the USA". It will tell you that it is possible to use options X, Y and Z (and perhaps give a bit of detail about each option), but the choice is left up to you. Anyhow, for me this isn't something worth disagreeing about. :)

If the wiki contains technical terms that an understanding is not really needed to get the job done, then note that for the readers.
The wiki takes what is [in my opinion] a very reasonable approach: things that need to be known are explained, and things that don't are not. It isn't intended to be an exhaustive source of information about things that aren't directly and intimately related to MediaPortal (like XML, XMLTV and .NET).
If you want to know about something that isn't explained, I recommend a quick search with your preferred Internet search engine.
If you think something that is not explained deserves an explanation, feel free to ask for one to be added... or even better, sign up for an account and add the explanation yourself. Anybody can contribute to the wiki. We really appreciate it when people take the time to help us in that way.

it's probably a situation where the developers write the wiki at a level of knowledge where other coder types understand that certain terms are descriptive, and people like me don't.
Developers are only partially responsible for the content in the wiki. We actually have a documentation group who are tasked with co-ordinating the structure, managing contributions [from whoever], and filling in the gaps where necessary. As I said above: if you feel the wiki is lacking in any respect, feel free to help us to improve it.
