Hi!

Say I have two tuners, tuner a with a CI/CAM/SC combination and tuner b without CI.

Is it possible to record scrambled channel x with tuner b while I view unscrambled channel y with tuner a and to unscramble the recorded channel x later by the CI/CAM/SC of tuner a?

:D, caveman.

Ok, then I have to look for another piece of software.

    Edit: May I ask why?

    TIA,

Ig I understand your question right, you will not find another software that can do the descrambling "afterwards", this is actually more hardware related.

To get things right; you want to

record a scrabled channel on the tuner with no CI, and "decode " the recording when it'S finished. This is not possible because the decoding is done by the Cam/ci. It is decoding the TV stream (the "antenna" stream" ), and is not doing anything while you watch a recording, because there simply is no physical stream, also your recording already will be black.

But, what you can do anyway is watch/record a scrambled channel on your tuner with Ci, watch another channel on the same transponder on the same tuner, and also record/watch an unscrabled channel on your tuner without CI, and watch anther channel (unscrabled) on the same transpüonder on the same (second) tuner.

    Can you follow my explanation?

    cheers

How do USB- CI's work then?

Yes, but -as you will know- that's not enough in germany.

the same way, their drivers are hoocked in the stream.

You mainly have this issue if you are using DVB-C and only have one ci and subscription card, that's why I will switch to DVB-s asap, once i have the other "projects" finished.
    ;)

there is however a chance to use smartwi (wifi card emulators), I have bought this system, but not yet configured.... seems to be promising...

Hmm, somebody should "invent" a (hardware) CI with DirectShow Filter, so you can input a scrambled stream (which is redirected to the real hardware CI) and on the output side you get a descrambled stream (output from the real hardware CI). Thought that an USB CI would have been something like that. Sad.

USB CI _is_ something like that. only that there is no officially documented API how to use them, AFAIK.

And that's why I can't understand "CEOs" (in german: "Schlipsträger").
Hauppauge would sell a lot more units if they would supply such a DirectShow filter or an API...

Wait- that means timeshifting doesn't work either, right?
