Unable to play .RMVB files (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I need help. Recently I upgraded to Media Portal 1.10 RC2 and since I have been unable to play Real Media & QuickTime (.mov) files. I have registered the extensions, have the codecs installed but Media Portal refuses to play. MP version 1.02 had no problem. The files play OK outside MP with Media player Classic and WMP.

I would appreciated any help or if anyone is experiencing similar problems.

yep, same problem still in Mediaportal.
I get the message
Unable to play:
Video: RV40
Audio: Cooker
or something like that.
It does play in WMP and MPC. So I think it's a Mediaportal bug.
I haven't found a solution yet.

Hello KKendell, I have since found a solution for the RMVB problem. Go to the video codecs in the configurator change the MPEG codec. When I did this all came good. I can't remember which one it was, but there are only three to choose from. I have a feeling that Media Portal only uses its own codecs and ignores others that are installed, because I have the Real Media COdec v2.0 installed but Media Portal Ignores it.

Damn, You're right!
If I change my MPEG codec from Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD10) to Cyberlink Video Decoder (PDVD10) I can play my RMVB files! ) Other codecs work too (but give other problems with online content).

Why is in MediaPortal the setting of the MPEG codec of any influence on the playback of a RealMedia (variable bitrate) file? Maybe my understanding of codecs is wrong, so I really would like to hear an explanation from one of the devs...
And where stands the /SP for in the description of the codec, does anyone know that?
